What we can expect in 2011

The BMOC instructors have confirmed the 2008 list will be finished this year. As for our list, they remain hesitant to make any predictions for the 2009 list. According to them, once the 2008 list is completed there will be no need for sgts simply because there aren't enough cops on the job to supervise. So we're to wait until NYPD hires more cops. They've heard two rumors, one-- a January class of 2000 recruits, or two--an April class of 900, and July class of 900 (yes they will overlap ) That's the word. Take it for what its worth.

There hasnt been a sgt bmoc in half a year. So what bmoc instructors cofirmed that? The lt or capt instructors? So was this actually said or did you just make it up?

The instructors that teach the Advanced Leadership Course. Yes, this is what they said this week. As I said, take it for what it's worth. What they have heard and are passing on.

The BMOC instructors never know things this far in advance. They are usually the last to be told about any classes going in. Take it for what it is...SPECULATION

"That's the word"/ "Speculation"/ "Rumor"/ ....it's all the same ****. It's the NYPD. Nothing is definite until it happens. It's a discussion forum, I'm passing what I heard along. This is the reason why I usually just read the forum instead of posting. Because people turn into a bunch of telephone tough guys so eager to  call bull**** and argue over the internet. Anyway, I hope my info is good, and they start promoting like they used to.

Usually "The Chief" posts it in numerical order in their paper. Don't think they have yet tho.

when they are ready to start calling off our list they will make it "public" and the chief will post it in the paper...list isnt considered active yet .. i would think any day now it'll at least be made public .. they only got one more class from '08 left really... so probably before the end of octoberish we'll hear something

Hey I was just looking at the 08 sgt forums and they've posted that the BMOC instructors are telling them that there will be another class on 10/11/10 and another on 11/3/10. I find it hard to believe that we went 5 months w/out any promotions now we might have back to back to back classes? Kind of sounds funny but lets hope right? They claim the October class will finish the 08 list and that the November class will start our list. What are the chances!

I went to PETS training at the academy and one of the instructors said that they believed that a new class of recruits is going in around March or April. A large January class is possible, but to them, the signs are pointing towards a spring class. If they hire sergeants based on how many recruits are going in, it's going to be a slow road to promotion.

At the same time, there is supposedly a large class eligible to retire. Speculate all we want, all we can do is wait.

Well bottom line the dept needs sgts. With the recruits hitting the streets early january they will need more bosses. So oct 11 class is not to far fetched. I don't know about Nov but a class during that month could be possible. Utimately it comes down to whether they keep hiring recruits.

If it's true that the current bmoc class is getting promoted on sept 24 then continuing bmoc, an Oct 11 class makes sense.
Doubt they'll finish the list, but may at least promote the remaining 78 without the passovers.
Starting the 09 list this year would be wonderful!!

I just saw the news (Channel 7 Eyewitness News) and Bloomberg announced a city wide hiring freeze for 2011. He stated that he may make exceptions for "public safety" and agencies that "generate revenue". (Traffic Enforcement anyone?) Not exactly what I wanted to hear.... Maybe I'll get promoted just before I retire.

Yes I too saw that on the news. This is going to negatively impact promotions. No cops then no need for bosses. WTF, just when we thought the list would be moving.

This pretty much sums it up.

Not to get political, but....if the republicans win big in this election it will cause wall street to rejoice somewhat and may cause businesses to open up their money supplies...

Point being, it may give a jolt to the economy which will translate into more tax revenue for the city which will translate into more hiring....

I really don't care about politics but I care about getting promoted so anything that will help that I am all for.

If this doesn't happen or the republicans win and it doesn't end up helping the economy, I think we are in for a long road on the '09 list....

Our list is all about waiting...

Peace.
