Well its official and this is not a joke it came down they just did not set a date. I didn't believe it my self so I made a call and it was confirmed by the academy. The last test I still believe should be thrown out due to many errors on it. Start studying and lets all get 90's or better
I love reading these forums. How is it confirmed that a 2010 test is comming out when the 2009 is not made public yet? Is Ms. Cleo working in 1PP? Will I find happiness in 2009? What about love? Did I even pass the 2009 test?
If you read my post I said I believe the test should be thrown out now whether it will be or not I have no clue. All I am saying is that the academy confirmed there is going to be a sgt in january of 2010 they just do not have a date yet.
I guess if they plan on administering another exam they are in dire need of Sgts. 1 active list, another waiting for activation and another exam pending...You do the math.

they announced the 09 test b4 the 08 list was public. 09 listdoes not have to be made public first
Come on guys, is the old trick in the book. They will announced an exam for 2010, then once the filing date is expired, then they will released the list for 2009, and placed a final key on DCAS. Why, easy so the people who alleged to have low score and the people who fail by one or two points re-apply for the up-coming exam. But it is confirm, there is going to be a 2010 Sgt's exam to be administer on February 2010, stand-by for the finest.
What no seems to be mentioning on any of these forums is that the city's Fiscal year starts in July, thats why there is a class going in on June 29th. My personal belief (I don't have any inside info). Is that the list will start moving again over the summer and through the Fall. The Job needs Sgt's badly, and I dont think the 2009 list is gonna be very big either. Just my opinion.............
I'm going to go out on a limb and say "No 2010 test!" It seems that more people passed the last test, and the 08 list still has alot of eligibles remaining. I hope I'm wrong.
There's not going to be a 2010 Sgt's exam. The fiscal year starts in July and it was not worked into the budget. A person from EMD states that about 700 people, give or take, passed this last exam, and with the 400 or so names left on the 2008 list, there is no need to give another exam so quickly. The only change for the 2009 test is that question 76 is a double answer in which they will accept A as a correct answer, as well as C, which was the origional correct answer. There were no throw outs. They plan on another Lt's exam in about 2 years. So put the 2010 test talk to bed.

I would guess this all depends on how many passed the 2009 exam.
What I have learned in my limited time here is that these exams are just money making scams by the city. It generates easy money and the city is in need of money.
Another exam could bring in a few extra dollars and I would guess it doesn't cost the city all that much.
Also, could they not announce another exam, have people file and pay, and then next year claim economic problems and just delay the date of the exam until at least the summertime?
Guys, stop fooling yourselves with this "exam=money statements" For the City of NY those money are peanuts. the City generates most of cash off the Wall Street, taxes and ports.

I am not saying they are going to solve their fiscal problems with this, but it is easy way for them to generate extra revenue without spending much.
What were the numbers from the last exam? 5 or 6000 taking it (and only 700 and something passed...)
What govt agency isn't going to pass up that easy money?
Maybe I am jaded, but I don't see how money isn't factored into this...
Is funny to me when people speak of things without making any sense. The city actually loses money when they do a civil service test because of the cost of monitors, creating and also grading the test. The city is considering outsourcing civil service test because of this fact.
So the city loses money on every test they give....sure...ok...so they give one everyear.
There is no need for a sgt's exam next year, so they are going to give one anyway....during a time when they can't afford anything...and they are losing money by giving the test....to make a list that won't be used for a few years....
it has nothing to do with the money, if it did why is it taking 4 years to give a lt. or capt exam???? they can make money off them aswell....i also heard sgt.s test in feb 2010
I also just heard there's gonna be a 2011,2012,20,13,20,14,2015,2016,2017,2018,2019,2020,2021,2022,2023,2025,2025 sergent's exam LMFAO Guys wait to get good info and write productive things on this forum
Hey, Guys stop it. I say there won't be a sgt 2010 until maybe after june.
1. Go to dcas website they are already up to JUNE 2010 tentative exam. there is no SGT test there. 2. I believe in the theory that they will announce it 6 month before the date.
until then sit back, relax enjoy the job. We' all will have plenty of time to study for it. And only maybe %10 will pass. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/employment/examschedule.shtml
"again what do I know, I am just a cop with no hook"

I might agree to what you have said, but when they announce a tentative exam at DCAS, they would placed in their website when said exam is going to be administered. So far the Department is proposing to give an exam for August 2010 and DCAS so far has their scheduled for June 2010. With that said, DCAS is not up to that date on their calendar as per DCAS website. DCAS updates their website every sunday at midnight. If they give said exam, then the department will broadcast that finest either by January or February 2010.

I am sure KSA and the other schools have people that give them reliable information. However, I don't see why they would need another test. They have over 200 names on the 08 list, and God knows how many people passed the 09 test. Add to that there aren't any large classes going in and because of the economy, the retirements have slowed to a trickle. (All of my SGTS. except for two of them have over 20 years and one of the under 20 is on the LT. list) I believe this month they are going to have less than 200 people going into the academy and that is only because Fed money is going towards securing the Transit system.
I want the 09 list to come out as badly as the next person, but really, it seems like they won't even exhaust this list to at best the summer.
I agree, no cops hired means no sgts needed. They are not even finished with the 08 list and at least 600 people on ours so.......do you really think they need another test?
