My question is simple: Is it possible to get notified to enter BMOC before you hit your 5th year anniversary?
I'm relatively new on the job, but I've never seen it done before. Everybody got notified for bmoc at some point AFTER they hit their 5 year mark. Thanks for the input for the people in the "know."
I believe you have to have completed 5 years before entering to BMOC.
Its going to be interesting to see if July BMOC (assuming there will be a July BMOC class) will actually start on Monday June 29th when guys who reach their 5th year (July 1st, 2009) are not necessary elible, or maybe class will start July 6th when they are.
It is possible for bmoc to start june 29th, and people who dont hit 5 years till july 1 to be in the class since technically u r not promoted till u graduate bmoc.

I can see your logic and you might be right on this issue. Its same with entry level cops -- you can apply when you're 17½ but 21 when you can be sworn in.
You can absolutely go into BMOC before ur 5th year. i just saw it happen last december with two guys in my command. They went into bmoc in dec. hit 5 yrs in jan
Yeah, its on graduation day from BMOC you need 5 years. Actually last years' June to July class had people in it that didn't quite have a full 5 when they entered BMOC, but did when they got their Sgt's shield.
When you enter BMOC, your not promoted. After graduating BMOC and shaking Ray, Rays hand, you officially have been promoted; thus the final answer is you can enter BMOC before you hit your fifth year, as long as when you get promoted, its your fifth anniversary. Unfortunately for many of us, with the great golden eagle shield there is a pay cut on the horizon.
Just heard it from someone who used to teach at the academy...like I said though..dont know how true it is...I mean the fiscal year begins July 1st right? And they did cancel the last may class due to fiscal reasons right?
So you would think they would put a class in so that it would get promoted after July 1st so that it wont go against this years fiscal crisis as they put it...
Cat, your info has been right on. Just do me a favor and this goes for everyone. Please stop calling them 5 year people. The correct term is 5 year wonders. Thank you, and everyone have a lovely Memorial Day....
