Extremely reliable source!!!!!

About a little more than %10 of the people who took the test passed. Which means about 600-700 people passed the test because 6000 people took it. I cannot say where this came from for obvious reasons but believe me it is extrememly reliable and will be the outcome when the list is published. Now be aware that this does not include the number of people that may pass because of questions thrown away or double answers. That will be in addition to the 600-700 people.

How is this good info? The percentage of people who pass is usually in the 10% mark.

According to that other topic 141 people passed with only 17 commands polled.

You telling me only 240 more people passed in the 75 or so other commands plus god knows how many details? I doubt that...

Heck, 50 people probably passed from 1PP alone.

so far with the list in the other thread I'm averaging about 8 per command, figure about a 100 commands with housing, transit, TF's, and others. It's probably more than 100 but lets just say to make it even. That gives us with an 800 range. The more people that gives me the info the more we will see the round about figure.

For your information Quagmire, I think it's safe to say most people in details aren't really looking to leave them, they're looking to retire from them.  Majority of people who take the test are from patrol. So for you and your details i'll add 100 to the list. Oh wait but maybe you're bitter because you failed, it's ok, we can start a support group for you on here, I'll be the first to pat you on the head and tell you it will all be ok. No one is looking for an accurate number, that's why we call it an ESTIMATE.  So why don't you join the club and tell me how many passed where you work buddy.  If you don't care to read what you see then don't read it, you can keep your smartass comments to yourself.

5,999 people passed.  I was the only one in the city who failed!   Looks like I'll be the lone boss hater.  I'm curious to know how many really did pass.  My concern is that if the numbers are really high some people in the lower spectrum of passing might not make it in the end.

The list is definitely going to be bigger this year compared last years, i'd say by like 25%. In 08 when i took the test at my old command only 1 person passed this year it was 3. My new command 7 passed compared with 4 last year. Ask around it seems to be the trend at most commands more people passed 09 compared to 08....

I am not even worrying about that. Probably there will be no 2010 exam by DCAS when we have so many who have passed this year. And they will promote all who passed this time.

Like die4trade said, if the 09 list is huge they will just promote everyone off of it and not give an exam in 2010.

For your information, I did pass and being an over zelous rookie is exactly why this job is what it is...Good for you for passing but word to the wise, shut up and listen.  You lack common sense.  no

If you had more thn 1 year off probationdisbelief, you would know that traditionally there has never been more then 1300 people on any sgt list...thats including a list with test scores as low as 55!  Dont get me wrong, you studied and earned it...most people study for 2 weeks and give up.

As for your grand idea to get an idea of how many passed....thats near impossible...you might be able to get about 40% of PSB...now you need Transit and Housing...OCCB, INTEL, DB... and 2500  other sub units.  It might be easier to assume that 1 in 10 passed, which is 600.

I barely passed. I take it again next year if I have to... But they gave 3 exams  in a row last three years. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't give out no 2010 exam. lets wait for August  they usually announce it during the summer time for the next year's exam. If we don't hear from DCAS by the summer time we should be O.K. for promotion on every list number. Good luck to all.

Quagmire - If 3yrwonder wants to do it let himher do it. Nothing wrong with that. You should be right abt 600 passing but hey, the proposed answer key is out, the main protest days are over with, now whats next- how many passed, lol. So i guess we have to have a discussion abt it. You both passed - be happy, no need for negativity even though i will write one, lol
Economy in the crapper and it wont get better in term of hiring new cops for another 3,4 years - no new cops no new sgt. Lets say in the next 3 years they hire 3000 cops tops = 400sgts. Sgts retire but so are the cops, so lets add another 200 for whatever reason, that brings us to 600
We got 400 left on 08 list + 600 on 09 if not more = 1,000. 600 needed we are 1000.
Before we used to get 3000 cops year so we needed at least 400 Sgt a year.
If there is a test in the next 3 years, we all whos got a low 70's are in trouble

oleiry, seems like everyone has a reliable source.. I would love to believe that less than 600 passed but it seems unlikely.. What makes your source any more reliable than others? I'm also hoping that the LT's test can be delayed until 2011. That's when i will be eligible for promotion and hope to just make it for the LT's exam..

From an EXTREMELY RELIABLE SOURCE the number that passed the current test is somewhere between 1100-1300. For those that scored in the lower 70s chances are you will die on the list. Avg score is probably going to fall between 76-79. That makes for alot of high scores. My Lt. was at compstat and over heard the chief of the borough talking to his connection at DCAS on his cellphone in the mensroom. The cellphone was of the nextel type and was obviously on speaker but they were talking in code. Luckily the encryption of the code was located above the urinal, right next to all the other reliable info. posted here.

Thats not what i heard...I heard they are throwing out the exam because 5910 people passed...anyone with a score less thn a 88.943 is out of luck.  Oh yea, they wont be puting out any more exams until 2023 when most of the people who passed this exam retire.   This all comes from an extremely reliable source..Bloombergs daughters drivers next door neighbors uncle who overheard esposito's drivers babysitters investigator conversating with the good men and women at building maint.

Also heard from a very reliable source that has been on the money since all this B/S started that the number is 460 that passed. Anyone with a low 70's score with less than five years will be waiting a long time. Just wait untill the seniority points and all the other extra points are added in, that should really shake things up! I dont believe the numbers everyone is saying but I will say one thing, usually 10% pass and this test was not any easier that the last four tests, they were all about the same. 2008 test may actually been easier. The Key gave re writes of the 03,05,07 and 08 tests, or something like that, not exactly sure of the yrs.  I took 03 and 05 but didnt study so going by the re writes, they all seemed somewhat similar.  This test had a lot of the 08 interm orders so if you werent current then that could of screwed some people. Anyway, only time will tell. Im looking at a 84.5 with my extra points. Good luck to all.

MCD, if the number of ppl that passed is around 460 what makes you think the ppl that got in the low 70's w/<5yrs will have to wait a long time? I mean someone with 3yrs will have to wait till their 5th yr anyway and will probably get promoted once theyre eligible, no? Arent they up to the 2008 test now anyway?

Besides with a low number like 460 its almost guaranteed that there will be a test next year. So those 3yr wonders will actually have the opportunity to take the test again.

Hmm, does anyone know what will happen if lets say someone that passed this test with a low 70 but takes the next test and does A LOT better, how do they determine what/when they will get promoted?

If you get a 70 on the 2009 test but a 90 on the 2010 test then you will still be promoted off the 70 first unless they publish two lists and start hiring off of both lists together. In other words, not gonna happen, that 90 would be technically pointless.

Guys, dont beat yourselves up. If you passed this test you WILL be promoted. Dont let anyone fool you. Regardless of what you scored, if it starts with a 7 you'll be on the list and eventually make Sergeant. Breathe easy, the hard part is over, now just si tback and wait.

New User, In my opinion I do not believe a 3yr wonder in the low 70's would get promoted as soon as they're eligible because names are not moving that fast. Most people who pass are in the 70's and will also have seniority points. My guess would be 3yrs at this rate. But then who am I to say?

The rate that they hire right now sucks for every1
The list will be out within 6 month to 1 year then they will hire the 90's and 80's second year then 70's third year and maybe 4th. If there is a test next year its a kamikaze.

The LT. is going to be Announced late 2009 and administer Early 2010. And this is comming from reliable Sources. I hate to say this but they are going to cut the Lt. List very short. People aren't going to be very happy about this. Sgt's Exam, announced mid 2009 around Augt. And administer Early 2010.

Why would they cut the LT's list short? There's no logical reason to kill the list when you still have about 200 more names left that have scores in the upper 80's. I mean, what's the point? With the current hiring freeze i'm sure they will hold off and maybe have another test in 2011...

Also, I do believe at least 800 (and possibly more) or so ppl have passed this current sgt's test. I'll be very surprised if it is less..

Oilery, 380 is just too small of a number. As the saying goes, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.....

lol.. Trust me  the LT exam will not be administered in early 2010. In your "sources" defense the city was trying to do just that, but DCAS shot them down saying you better get 40% into the list before we will even entertain announcing another exam. But look at the bright side if 480 sgts get promoted to LT by late 2009 then your source was 100% right. But trust me they will definitly not be at that number by late 2009.

I dont mean a really long time.  I mean probably about 2 to 3 years because they will have to wait to get their 5 years first.  Then if their number hasent come up yet and they didnt get passed over they should be right around the bottom of the list at that time.  Anyway anyone who passed with 3 years on would expect to wait that long anyway so its no big deal.  Like everyone else said, if you passed you will be promoted, just a matter of when.  confuse

well anyway, I am happy thats not my situation. I got in the seventies but have top number of seniority points so now ill be in the eighties. Who knows maybe even a couple extras for throw outs. I think ill have to wait approx 18 months so low seventies with three yrs on is looking at 2 to 3 years. Good luck, use your waiting time wisley and actually learn the job. three years on, you really know nothing now but will have gained some experience by then if your on patrol.
