You will not look  back once you get promoted, although there are new annoyances and stuff to deal with you can actually have some input on some decisions.  It was well worth the effort of studying.  Plus , one step closer to LT.

Sometimes......Okay most times but with time I'm sure things will get better. It's like everything else, with time and routine it becomes easier. Now P.O.'s attitudes and resistance to new bosses is something you need to expect but handle in a professional manner. Just don't forget where you came from and how you felt in those same shoes.

It will be allright

funny that this topic was brought up cuz i was thinkin about this the other day. i do have some regrets... i went from a nice command with good food to a shiit hole with no food. you have two yr wonders trying to flex on you which is a joke. And whenever they do something stupid i have to write a 49 explaining why they are idiots. i cant get any o.t. or a day off. i have all this extra responsibility and yet im making less then a p.o. im sure in time i will get use to the nonsense of the rank. the rank will be more enjoyable when they fix the pay rate also... so in closing i dont really regret studying and getting made however i do catch myself once in awhile scratching my head and wondering how the hell did i get here...

2 year wonders (wannabe hairbags). I thought that was only in my cmd. Little to no time on the job but in their minds because they may work in a semi busy house, alot stuff goes out the window. It's all fun and games until...
Anyway, I to scratch my head.

I agree with Shoefly and Excessive force in that these kids think that they are untouchable... working in special units with their big two years+ on the job and all, but when they f@#$ up who do they turn to??? HUH.... Hmmmm.... Well that would be us, of course. Like shoefly said, "It's all fun and games until..."

Getting a command that has OT for sgt's is huge, i been pretty lucky, anyone who wants a ton of OT, hopefully you get transit, no i am not in transit now but i know the bosses get OT there to do nothing. Some commands have OT , just have to get lucky. I am still waiting for my night diff to kick in they owe me like 6-7 months times $580 a month. Not bad.

Skin color helps depending on the people doing the interview as having something in common with the interviewer always does BUT with a crappy attitude, poor work ethic, lazy disposition the options and opportunities will be more scarce. Some people walk into interviews in jeans and some in slacks...who seems better? Of course who you know helps but I can tell you for a FACT that you can go just about anywhere on this job without a phone call if you work hard, have a good personality and are persistant. I am NOT just talking crap...I have done it.

I am not gonna play the race card but open your eyes. Oh and by the way who is the chief of the borough... HMMMMMMM????

Why bother replying to crap like that.  Im sure he is type that cries racism everytime something doesnt go his way.  Its like when the blacks and hispanics were complaining the FDNY test were unfair to minorities, because not enough minorities were passing, im spanish, and I think that is pathetic.

Let the regrets start once again.

So cops make more than Sgts. Big deal, they make 20 bucks more a paycheck. Its all the wait til top pay. Then a cop must do I believe 22 tours of OT to equal a sgt's base at top pay.

hollar, I dont get into many arguments on this board, but i have to say, you are a complete idiot. You are right that many things happen on this job if you know the right people, however knowing the right person doesnt help you pass any exams now does it ?  Please keep your racist comments off this board. If you truly feel what you said you have some bigger issues to deal with and i hope for everyone's sake you never become a boss.  With being a boss , you would learn the best approach to many issues to be fair. It may not be popular,  but we aren't in the position to be everyone's friend. Try to be FAIR. If you already have these ideas in your mind about race and who knows what else, anyone on this board can see you are not going to base decisions on fair and impartial judgement.  You are supposed to lead by example. There are enough idiots out there, how about be one of the good guys.

You have to think long term, yes it sucks that you will be making the same as a cop now, but if you're like me and you have three more years to the fifth step time flies and in no time you'll be making over 90 grand without over time and not including longevity.  You have to look at the glass as half full, who knows when the unions are going to settle a contract once the current ones expire.  You know fully well the city is going to cry poverty for a couple of years and not offer us sh!t.  As a recently promotoed sgt, your pay will continue to increase every year until you hit top pay, while a top pay cop is stagnant.  And I dont know about you guys, but I took the promotion so I could make a little more cash without having to spend more time at work, I enjoy life outside the job.

P.S. Im not sh!tting on being a cop, I enjoyed it, but this is definately a bosses job. I havent had one complaint since I have been promoted, but of course that can all change in a heartbeat I suppose.

night dif is handled by one person at 1pp, i been waiting 7 months and still no night dif yet, so it's like an extra savings account for the time being. $580 a month for full sgt night diff, it can be your car payment.

I regret getting promoted. I wish i was still a PPO instead of a PO. The academy was less stressful without writing tags every month.

hmmm..probably depends on what day you are asking me. It's a totally different perspective. I would say you are treated better and it's nice not to have to collar or write tags anymore, but...it's a whole new world of new aggravations and stresses.
It also makes you see cops in a whole new light. It makes you see that some are great and some are just useless zeroes, and I'm not even talking activity here, just as far as attitudes and professionalism go. It also becomes obvious real quick that the two year wonders in crime and conditions are a sergeant's biggest annoyances when on the desk. They are a bunch of whiny prima donnas who think who they are.

i really think the new crop of cops on this job r awful! they dont know how to handle a missing or how to answer a ground ball radio run. they go straight from impact to crime n thats pathetic. for most of these rooks this is their 1st "real" job n just cuz they get the CO numbers they dont know how to act. i did my time on patrol with out ever goin into a unit. i feel ray ray should make a policy that these fvckin good for nothing pos have to do 5yrs patrol before even thinking about a specialized unit!!!! Can i get an Amen??

The facts are that ray ray kelly loves minorities and all he does is kiss their ass and promote them no matter how smart or how incompetent. The problem is everyone is to afraid to say the truth.Ray kelly and bloomturds social experiment has failed. This will have negative effects on the job for years to come.Sensitivity training at the APOLLO come on you have to be kidding me.Community Affairs BLAH BLAH BLAH.....And when called on the carpet minorities usually wil always cry and play the race card wah wah wah!!!!!Some people will immediately call me a racist but I am far from it.... I am a realist.....

There we go again. I see whats going on here "Stoptheinsanity" is a racist in the open well thats understandable, but not in this country which is based of immigrants. "Stoptheinsanity" before you talked out your fried brains, learn the history of the United State of America, and you will see who was here, and who came here first. It is disgusting hearing this ignorant nonsense. But you know what, if we are going to talk about this department, lets bring history back. Who created comp stat? Was it a person of color? Who destroyed this job deeply by bringing the operation impact? I dont think is has anything to do with minorities. If we look at the percentage of minorities getting promoted to the higher ranks of the NYPD, that are minorities excluding chief Sigler, they all think they are white, they all drink the coolaid, and forget where they came from. I experienced it my self through the tenure in this department. I dont think the downfall of NYPD has to do with racism. it has to do with new people getting all the sweet deals with no time on the job, and of course not enough experience on the road. Example Sgt getting promoted with all her time done at the academy, one police plaza, specialized unit etc, and now they get promoted, and think the job is on the level with no collars on their belt, or time on patrol. Five year wonders getting promoted the minute the reach the five-year mark, etc. All of us have got to stop thinking about this ignorant comments and star looking at reality.

Ladies and Gentlemen: lets stick together and stop the nonsense, because at the end of the road regardless of what color we are. People looks at us as blue, meaning if you see a brother or a sister in blue out there, say hi acknowledge by waiving back. Honor those family members out there because in the long run we all we have.
