SGT Payscale

Does anyone have information on what the City is going to do now that the PBA contract was approved?  A top pay cop now makes more than a base pay Sgt......Any info would be appreciated!

Any word on what the SBA is going to do and when about the pay?
If we start at the 3rd step then we'll get to top pay faster which is a good thing.biggrin.gif

Correct me if i'm wrong but a top pay cop makes about 76,400 without longevity, so if you look at the scale a sergeant at the 3rd step as of 7/1/08 only makes 74,000 without longevity, obviously still less than a top pay cop.  The 5th step is the only step a sgt can make more than a top pay cop.  I spoke to a sgt from the sba board last week and he really couldnt give me an answer as to what they are doing with the pay scale or what type of grievance was filed.

You're saying the ratified contract salary wont go into effect until the beggining of next year, why so long?

the fourth year of the ratified PBA contract won't go into effect until 8/01/09. The contract years have started in August every year for atleast the past decade

I know this is a dumb question but i have no idea how it works.....Is the Sgt payscale the same as a cops payscale in terms of steps ??....When they say steps is that annual ??...how long does it take to hit top pay as a sgt ??? I thought it was 4 yrs....if its 4 yrs why is there 5 steps??

It's 5 steps, but you start at step 1, so step 1 plus 4 years = step 5

We were told at BMOC by Labor Relations, that they were told that we would start at step 3 and go to top pay in 2 years as opposed to 4 years.  He said that he was told by payroll that it would show on the 10/31/08 paycheck.  We shall soon find out.

for those who have a year in rank already, i called employee labor relations and i was informed by the lt. that we will stay at the pay scale we are at now and that it was true that new sgts would reach top pay in 2 years only. He also informed me that the sba filed a grievance about the new contract and he has no idea if or how that will affect us sgts with one year in rank, but i know one thing yall new sgts beat the system

Can anyone else confirm this? I know you were told in bmoc but many people hear different things from the same speaker in those ungodly boring lectures. It all depends on which stage of sleep you are in at the particular time. If true that is f'in sick.

Like someone else had pointed out to me, cops dont hit top pay until 8/1/09, and i was unable to find the steps for the new contract but i think a cop at the fourth step makes less than a 1st step sgt.  I could be wrong so if comeone has that info can they post what a cop makes in the 4th step under the new contract.

A top pay cop as of 8/1/08 makes 73,546, so recently promoted sgt would have to move up to the 3rd step to make more. Hopefully the grievance filed by the SBA will fix the pay situation for those of us promoted prior to the contract ratification soon.

if that number is acurrate, then i make 46 dollars less than a cop with one year in rank as a sgt which means i must jump a step too but when i spoke with the lt he told me we werent we really need to see how this plays out and where is the sba at with adressing this issue, my delegate has no idea of whats going on and i would really like to see where we stand

Im pretty sure that was it, anyhow, no one seems to know much of anything.  I spoke to both the bk north and bk south director and neither one could give me much info, and I had a board director with me at a GO, and he couldnt answer my question, he changed the subject on me.

According to my first paycheck at Sgt. pay, I am not at the 3rd step. I'm even a little below what the above chart says is the 1st step (77,230 with longevity) I am at 77,018.  Anyone have any clear info on what we are getting paid and if there is going to be a change anytime soon? Thanx.

Wow, are you looking at your year to date?  Your stub wont show what you make annually, your stub would say base pay 2800.00 and whatever the longevity works out to be, I forget, like a little over 100.  I'm sure you know by know the city takes forever to fix something when it involves money.  I dont understand how that wouldnt affect all of us who have been promoted within the last year, granted I got promoted to sgt prior to the contract ratification, but technically I now make less than a top pay copweirdface

2800.00 X 26 paychecks....164.24 longevity X 26 paychecks adds up to 77,018.

does anyone have any info about the newly promoted sgts payscale. As of this friday, members of the PBA will be making more money than a newly promoted sgt. I hear the whole 3rd step in pay isn't happening and that the SBA has to grieve for a new payscale and steps. Who knows when this will happen? So what happens if a new class of sgts goes in next month. Are they going to have to take a paycut when they take the promotion?

I heard the class in is going to the third step.  I dont know how it is in other commands, but my delegate told me and the other guys who have been promoted within the last year who make less than a top pay cop to attend the sba meeting on the 25th at antuns, only delegates are allowed to speak, but it would be good to show up at let your union know this is a very important issue.  Apparently all Mullins says at these meetings is that he is negotiating with the city and doesnt say anything else about the matter.  I would urge all of you guys and gals who are not yet at the third step to attend, I know I will be there, I didnt take on the extra responsibility to make less than a cop, a problem that needs to be corrected now.

The recently promoted and soon to be promoted will be stepped up to the appropriate pay rate, currently the 3rd step.  The information has been vague for very good reason.  Those who are yet to be promoted will learn this soon enough.  The union is fairly quiet because it is in the best interest of all those concerned and it will benefit them in the long run.  So don't jump all over the delegates - everyone is going to be adjusted.

Any anyone who says they only allow delegates to speak at the meetings hasn't been to an SBA meeting in the last 6 years or so.

I've never been to one, would be my first.  And the only reason I said that only delegates are allowed to speak was because that is what the delegate wrote in his memo to us.  And I wouldnt consider asking a delegate a question about an important issue jumping all over them, that's what they are there for.

Remember WOW 26 paychecks times 14 days per paycheck equals 364 days. There are 365 days in a year plus an extra day every 4 years for leap year. So every 12 years or so you will get 27 paychecks. $77,230 - $77,018= 212 dollars or roughly one days pay ($212 X 365 days = 77,380 + I have no life)
