My guess is you won't hear anything till the pope is out of town. I would say a may class then a july class with the 5yr guys.

Don't forget about the Sean Bell verdict on April 25th.  Chances are the MOS are getting off.  Anyone paying attention to the trial now knows what we always knew - this case is complete garbage.  Through its columnists and editorials, even the cop hating Daily News is all but admitting it.

The job might want to ride out any possible civil unrest before any more promotions.

RE: Promotions

I've heard promotions are postponed until the 30th because of the Sean Bell verdict.  Just passing it along.

RE: MAY CLASS ?

I wish there's rioting for 3 straight weeks so I can collect 300 hrs of OT then on my last one, get L.O.D. on federal property.

Last week I heard that about 20 Lt's were going in on April 25th for sure with no definitive word on a Sergeant's class. This was before they said they would release the Sean Bell verdict on the 25th. Sure, like the 20something lieutenants are really going to make a difference. But as always the NYPD is going to overreact when it reacts. Who knows, we'll just have to wait and see.

even b4 the bell announcement the talks about an april sgt class was all but dead.  lts are supposedly set for the 25th and they have been already called for pictures for the ids, but it could be delayed if they overreact about bell.

as for the next sgt class, the end of may seems to be the closest if they decide to do it then.  remember not too many left on the list until they can go back on july 1st when most hit 5 yrs.  my source is usually on the money and there has been no word on the next class yet.

jumpship:

As you know, the words 'Always' and 'Never' have no place in a conversation about how the job conducts business.  However, since I've been paying attention (a year and change) they've started BLC for Sgt's near the begininning of the month and promote near the end.  I can't speak for Lts.

I agree with Waiting4parole.  On the street Does it really matter if 20 Lts and 40 or so Sgts are in BLC when the verdict comes down?  Of course not.

Then again . . . Unlike Sgt's, Lts get promoted up front then attend training.  It's just my opinion but I can't see the job doing it on the the very same day the verdict comes down.  From a public relations perspective it's not the wisest move.

Whatever!  It's just idle speculation on my part.  Anyone with friends in 1PP, PARTS, or anywhere else people are in the loop about these things knows a lot more about it than me.

NYPD74 - I like the plan but I'd prefer to go LOD on my first one.  Why lose the week?  I got my place picked out.  You have to plan well.  There'll be cops getting into street battles for all the good spots.  That scares me more than any civil unrest!wink

DOA with 300 of OT I'd have 15,000 under my belt. While on LOD, I'd be playing online poker with strippers dancing in the living room.

i don't see them starting a class in the middle of the month. but this is the NYPD and anything is possible.

i'm keeping my fingers crossed for something to come down by April 30, May 1 for a May class.

if anyone knows any instructors in the police academy, keep on top of them, they get their schedules before any finest comes down.

Its amazing how everybody knows somebody but nobody has any reliable info. Just like everybody has a hook but they're miserable in their present assignment. YEAH OK

Hey cat, no offense I wasn't referring to your post. I was referring to the ambiguity regarding sgt's promotions for May/July.

Is there any truth to the rumors that after a July class the job will go without a sgt. class until January of 09 when the last 40 or so guys hit 5 years? I don't see how they can wait 6 months before hiring more sgts. Some wishful thinking on my part that they will somehow make the 7508 list late summer early fall and promote off that while waiting for guys to hit time from this active list in January.

the first class had aprox 75, the second class had about 55 total 130 they said they went to list # 221. That leaves about 209 on the list. I would figure a class goes in before july to make all that have 5yrs on.

I was talking to Hank Steinbrenner who spoke to a detail Capt. Capt said that he spoke to a PAA at 1PP and the PAA said that her cousin who got locked up said the officer at the 34 said his buddy at PSA4 overheard a SGT assigned to VIPER. Sgt said that his buddy in the 105 squad interrogated an aux who got collared for shoplifting said that the aux spoke to the janitor in the 122. The janitor was cleaning out the baskets in the Admin LT and notice a crumple up e-mail. The e-mail stated "Bob, call this number when you get a chance! It has the next date for the new Sgt BMOC class." The janitor gave it to his younger brother who's in school safety. The brother gave the # to Jim who in assigned to the 43 and he called. The # had a message and it said to check the police promotional exam forum for accurate information in regards to the all new Sgt BMOC.
