Ok. I know I am new on this board but I have been reading just about every post. For those who can help me I would appreciate it. Anyway, I am around list number 250 so I "should" be in the next class. I am out sick right now (Hernia Surgery), assuming there is no class in for April, what part of the month should I come back for the May class (assuming there is one). The surgeon has me out sick till April 21 but I think that is cutting it to close if there is a May class. I am thinking about coming back a week earlier than that just to be sure. I hope I am 100 percent by then but if it means getting made 6 months earlier I will tough it out. Does anyone know how soon before the finest comes down do they actually "create" the list? For what it is worth, I spoke with a female from Uniform Promotions today and I told her my situation and she stated there was no April class but could not tell me how soon the list is actually created before it "comes down " so if anyone knows ANYTHING I would like the info. Sorry for the long post. Thanks.
I had Hernia surgery back in 2004. What a bitch the first 3-4 days. Post-op was the biggest bitch of all. Going from bed to a wheelchair to the car was horrible. Crapping and sneezing was my worst mightmare. But once you past that hurdle it was all uphill from there and I was back to work in 4-5 weeks. Although even after the 5th week, it was a little tender from wearing the gun belt. You should recover pretty quickly.
NYPD74, thanks for the reply. So when do you think I should return to full duty, how soon before the next list comes down, assuming there a class going in for May, should I come back? Other than uniform promotions, who else would know? A couple of guys I work with were getting made to detective and uniform promotions were on the money...they knew the dates of the next graduations and knew that the date of the graduation of the last class (or two classes ago I dont remember) was going to be postponed a week before the people in BMOC knew. I knew someone in that BMOC class and I told him I heard about it and he called me the next day and confirmed saying that the instructors just informed them. Anyway, my other friend is in the band and he pretty much knows the dates because they notify him to play at the graduations so if he hears something I will post it. For what its worth, thats all I have for now.
You wont miss your promtion if you come back too late, you'll just do BMOC after the promotion. So if they skip your number and you're still out sick you would still have about 4 weeks to get back to work. Also you could come back limited, as long as it's not long term that shouldn't affect your promotion.
I would actually suggest trying the Medical Division, there are some medical things that can hold up a promotion, I don't think hernia surgery is one of them, but they would probably know how your sick status affects promotion.
I am going to call the medical division, eventually. What did you mean go to BMOC after the promotion? Did you mean get into the class even after it started? I need to know, for example lets say a class is going on for Monday, May 5. The finest will come down around Wed. April 30 or Thursday May 1 or so. When do you think they actually "create" the list to come down on that finest message for that Wed. or Thurs.??? A week before, that same day or what? Because if I am out sick they are obviously going to skip my name, so when do you think the latest day to come back full duty so it would not be too late? Any feedback will help!!! I am bored out of my mind sick at home so anyone please humor me. Thanks again.
I would check into Un-Adjudicated CD's...My C.O. got a call about one for me....Uniform Promotions was looking for it. Not saying it would or wouldnt hold you up, but I would take care of it.
I got this info from my asst ICO... So I'm going by their info....Unifrom Promotions probably wanted to see if anything was done or charges and spec were required type deal. But BS cs should be fine.
There are medical reasons they can hold you back from promtion, routine surgery isn't one of them. Worst case sceanario is that you would get stuck in your command until the promotion and then you would be assigned to BMOC until the next class and go through that class.
