Rookie Captain schedule?

I know you cant do the same tour as the co. But do you have the flex to modify your week to 4x/mids.

or you have no say.

Also hows days off work?

I want to know how bad my family life will be before I take the rank

Typically they want you to adjust your tour based off the COs schedule (Usually a 3-4 hour difference). So say your CO works a 1200x2000, you should be working a 1600x2400.

Your schedule changes on a weekly basis. You submit your schedule for the following the week, the week prior. Obviously you schedule yourself based off the COs schedule and the needs of the command/meetings/events etc.

Days off? Good luck! You're going to have shitty days off. Maybe a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday off. Weekends are rare unless you're a senior Captain or you're in a nice gig.

thanks for the honest feedback. It definitely is going to suck off the bat but hopefully after a little while it gets better. I still think if anyone is going to be able to get promoted by their 15th year, its a no-brainer. Unless of course youre in some great gig or cant handle the poor quality of life from paying your dues

It never gets better. YOU just get better at managing and dealing with the schedule.

Duties, Ride out, MFF. It's absolutely brutal in beginning I agree. Forget about weekends and time off with family and u get through it.

Your mileage may vary but here's my experience

Schedule for the most part is dont make things a pattern. I've done 0300 starts and 2000 starts but you have to be doing something. .

As far as family life... ummm if the things they do don't fall on a Friday Saturday or Sunday you can be there for them. You may be tired or not fully present. But if Timmy has practice on Thursday at 5... take Thursday as your RDO. Or do a super early one.

When ins Gil presented at the course he made a good point. If your family is that important to you have a weekly sit down either on Sunday etc etc and be transparent about your schedule and plan.

The schedule for me hasn't been a major issue and my RDO have been T/W for a while. Started off M/T.

The best way i can explain the schedule is that its random. There is pretty much no consistency to it and every week its like the borough scheduler puts on a blindfold and throws darts at a calendar. The only consistent is that you wont have weekends off.
