Is this the year the ICO position becomes the worst title to have in the Pct?

As someone whos been doing ICO duties the above statement is false. Its endless compliance checks, reports and budget monitoring. Not to mention patrol monitoring requirements, roll call inspections and endless emails.

The ICO sgt at my command don't do much. I'm sure the LT has more work to do however if you have a good sgt and cop in the office you should be ok. Also ICO makes their own hours and pick vacations separately from the command. It has alot of perks.

Get ready for scratch stat !!! New and improved way of upper brass checking how many times you scratch your cops.

My command started something like that a few months ago. They wanted an excel spread sheet at EOT of all the cops you scratched on your tour. Thankfully no supervisor complied with it. Upper brass forgot about it.

they have a staffing team that monitors attrition, when told that we were losing more people then hiring at a meeting one day, Shea at the time was like, whatever, moving on

i believe I said this before, but its worth repeating. I know a rookie that took the PO exam in July 2023, and was sworn in October 2023. This is absolutely not a knock on the individual. I am merely highlighting the sad state of NYPD recruitment efforts lately with such a short test-to-hire turnaround. Meanwhile we wait 6-9 months for DCAS to establish a promotional list

Be greatful that DCAS did not ruin our promotion exam like they did FDNY. FDNY Lt exam is currently in limbo.

The Post made it seem like they curved the exam (like they do with ours), and because of that FD refused to promote anyone off of it.

The problem with the FDNY exam is that their promotion list # is based 50% on their exam and 50% on their seniority.  So when they curved their exam, like they did other agencies, people who didn't pass originally, are now jumping hundreds of names above other people who legitimately passed.  Its not like our seniority which is merely a few percentages points at the most.  Thats why their unions are suing.  Much more complicated than our system.

The ICO and Admin spots are deemed horrible by people currently in them because usually the people in those gigs have been protected their entire careers and have done 3 seconds on patrol. They dont know what horrible is because theyve never had to fucking grind out the patrol life. ICO, Admin and C.A are all good gigs. Yes, alot of work, but not close to the shit you have to deal with on patrol. So knock it off.

Coming from someone who was on patrol for a big chunk of career, and finally got to experience the inside life.

The worst ICO positions on this job arent even in patrol commands. That award would go to
the ICOs in each of the central bookings where they endlessly dump dozens upon dozens of jammed cops with no shield and on various levels of monitoring. I was signing out from court a week ago and the ICO at Central Booking looked downright frazzled. He quickly mentioned that there are more jammed cops than full duty ones over there and that he just goes from one crisis to the next on a daily basis.
