They stopped promoting for about a year during covid. That supposed extension pretty much covered that year that they did not promote. Not sure why you are always hating on people that get made during end of lists.

They most certainly did not stop promoting for "about a year" during COVID. From the 2017 Exam forum:

Exactly sgts and lts alike are still retiring also the sgts list is already well into the 500s list.....the lts list r gunna do another 75 in February and I've heard more in March. This sgt list will continue to move.

Promotions have halted because of the contract. Thats what I got so far. Vacancies will continue to grow so expect big classes . A handful of sgts are on terminal also . Just sit tight be patient Ill update you guys soon as I hear more

I heard the same. The SBA is still not close on a deal from what Ive heard so expect the freeze to be for about 2-3 months if I had to guess

Correct 2-3 month freeze so should resume April if its not resolved before then. I understand how frustrating this sounds for the ones waiting . This is not the departments fault . Again be patient and Ill be back if I here any news . Be careful and safe people !

Even if they sign next month which they may not itll still have To go to vote and ratification. Could be longer than 2 months.

I guess the more interesting question is what happens if it takes the SBA 9 months to settle + vote etc.

Hopefully the dept doesnt then wait 9 months to start promoting again. Hopefully Lionel is correct and they start back up in April. Hoping the the best for you all!

Exactly. Voting and ratification is typically 60-90 days after they tentatively agree. So unless they agree this month April is a long shot.

With the last PO contract it took only 20 days between the time the contract was announced in the news and voting had completed with a yes vote. Not sure how much longer after voting was completed it takes for the city and union to actually sit down and sign it.

From my delegate who attended the meeting, more of the same. They are told that the union is working on it. No concrete information was given to anyone under the excuse of it will affect negotiations if word gets out. Ok. Lets hope Vinny pulls something out of his hat, because if not, I cant wait to vote for anyone other then him.

I think most of us are in the same boat playing the waiting game. Personally, I hope that the Sgts dont settle and the job is forced to promote anyway, then go straight to top pay. It seems that its just a dream though. Good Luck

The longer they wait to promote sgts the MORE vacancies will build up and the better for our list to get run through

@Passit100 for my situation, im thinking months not years. There's a big difference between going to top pay or being stuck at step 4 for 5 years.

You mean like everyone else who actually had to do all five steps? Going to top pay is a fluke and not something that should be seen as a privilege or bonus. A year ago everyone just wanted to be on list.

What tomSGT2022 is referring to is the SBA stepping up to the city and trying to force their hand by saying that any new SGT Classes in which Rookie SGT's go straight to top pay will cost the city millions. Instead of putting pressure on the city it just made them fight back by cancelling SGT classes. This was stupid the SBA should have just kept their mouth shut and allowed the city to keep promoting SGT's and boosting the ranks. Stop trying to force things and suggesting the SBA settle for a lackluster contract...I understand we are all trying to get paid but there is a process that must be followed. You don't see these rookie SGT's complaining about how they got screwed by having to wait until 2022 to take a SGT Exam that would've been given in 2020... Had COVID not happened all these 2000+ List numbers that barely scored a 60 raw score would've probably been vaporized and would probably still be P.O's ... and we would be 1 or 2 years into a new list.
