The city did not "give" anything. The city won the retro battle with the millions they saved by not paying 1.5 years of top pay retro to 1200 Sgts because our union is not good at bargaining.
Sergeants promoted after July 2023 were not only paid $22,000 more in real time than Sergeants promoted before them, they'll also receive more straight time retro than them for the same period. There's the savings.
I'm happy for all my coworkers that will finally make some/more money here, but don't think your union made a good deal. It took them 2 years of the city making interest on your money to settle the exact same deal all the other unions already settled. Two years of pretending they had never heard the words "12", "hours", or "tour" just to take a pilot program and identical raises anyway, lmao.

Its insane. This thread is full of cucks who are happy to get fucked over and trolls who dont give a fuck about anybody but themselves. I cant imagine making out like these rookie sergeants have and not having an ounce of sympathy for the guys that got screwed over. These guys are why the job and the union are in the state that theyre in, nobody looks out for each other and fucks each other over at every opportunity. They must be god awful supervisors.
You're right I really feel bad for the people who scored 40's on the 2017 exam, and furthermore if it wasn't for a global pandemic those guys that got "screwed over" would still be running a sector car and probably would have failed the 2022 exam... again.
All I got out of that was lets all vote no so we can get a higher retro while many of us starve to death fuck that. Were making $158k thru the door, this was far better than I couldve imagined.

Everyone promoted in second half of 2022 basically failed and only got promoted due to covid but that doesnt mean much on this job. But yeah your comments definitely reflect one way fuckery of this job and people on it.
There seem to be some Day 2 Sgts with no integrity talking smack in here, lol. If a higher test score made you a better supervisor, we wouldn't have any white shirts getting fired for molesting cops or demoted for squashing index crimes. You hiding in the bathroom of the Javits Center on the phone with your mom looking up patrol guide answers doesn't make you better than the guys that were taking the Sergeants test while you were still a civilian. Relax guys.

And you know what they're called at roll call? Sergeant.
Most lower scoring sgt's are better than the higher scoring ones in my experience. I said what I said.
The contract is fine, but it's two years too late - and it 1000% sold out the 1200. A sergeant is a sergeant. You have a ranking system based off test score? That's not how this works, except for vacation picks.

This is exactly why our union is in incompetent hands. One disagreement and we already started tearing one another down on a public forum. You all have a vote. Click yes or no depending on your personal situation and move on.
Once the voting ends may 5th. Does that mean the contract is ratified? Or is there additional steps that need still take place.

That's it, SBA will email a signed contract to OLR, OLR will endorse it on their end, then let use know when to expect payment so that we can adjust our personal deductions. (Def. Comp, etc) Expect union dues to go up within 12 months.
Vast majority of super senior and rookie Sgts are voting YES. Even if the 1200 voted no, it still passes easily...and most of the 1200 Sgts I spoke to are voting yes. We'll see in a few days.
Does anyone know if theres a chart out detailing the pay breakdown? Like how much the new OT rate is for day and night rates, anticipate bi weekly paycheck etc.
An entry level Sgt with 10 yrs on will make less than a PO with 10 years on when everything (longevity, holiday, uniform) is factored in? Im seeing that correctly?
Thats the way it looks to me. Entry level base pay Sgt will make $298 more than top pay base PO. With longevity, neighborhood policing, etc. youll make about $8k less. The question is, which step will we go to upon promotion? Is it calculated off of strictly base pay? Or total compensation?

I think Newly promoted sergeants will start at step 4. 120k
Pretty sure I read/heard that all new promotees start at step 4 and stay there for 5 years. Can kicked down the road until PBA settles and compression issue becomes a thing again. Godspeed
I could be wrong. I thought it went based off of base pay.
For the purpose of placing into a pay scale it goes off of base pay and service differential. Which is why Dets with 5 years in rank were able to go to top pay when they added a step.
PO top pay is $109,352 plus $2,460 (Neighborhood Policing Diff) for a total of $111,812.
Sgt pay step 3 is $110,175 - therefore Sgts go to step 4, which is $115,016.
