Episode 9: DCAS Strikes Back and The Rise of Rising Star

Looks like DCAS got us again boys! Luckily Ed & Tony came through once again to save the day and possibly future of the Police Department with all these retirements/resignations. Looks like those that took the Rising Star course passed. Now we know what course to take for the upcoming Lt exam. Although it is easier said than done..stay positive. If this DCAS Sgt exam turns out to be the fiasco that everyone says it was, then there will probably be another sgt exam in a couple of years.

There will be another test in a few years regardless. Hopefully if the rumors are true then theres some legal action and a new test.

Where are these statistics coming from? Sounds like diarrhea of the mouth to me. All the same guys that thought if they study 5 star procedures will pass now think its someone elses fault. Happens every test. Same complaints , same type of people. Look at 2017 test forum. Guys that passed due to curve are still arguing when is the next class is or who heard what 5 years after the actual test

A sgt bangs a cop and her nudes pics will be spread within hours. If there really was a leaked test, the entire job wouldve had it.

What I know for a fact was compiled lists being sent around last nights of the answers.

Let the rumor mills begin some of what Im hearing
1- lawsuits
2- todays pass rate 50%
3- picture of questions was released
4- whole test gets tossed

I love it.. then all the experts on here

Believe nothing till it actually happens

50% would be huge. The 2013 Sergeant test only 10% passed.

Ive never seen them throw out an entire exam beforeso I highly doubt that would happen. Can any of the older gurus confirm if that has ever happened? You probably have to go back to the 1990s or 1980s. In regard to the passing rate discrepancy, it happens every exam. The passing rate for people who take the make-up exam days, months, and years later is like 100% lol. Thats the real injustice. There are executives on this job who have taken a make-up exam for every rank. Thats one of the few loopholes left because you cant distinguish the scammers from people who actually have a legit reason to take a make-up exam. Its like Barry Bonds, Sosa, and McGuire going to the Hall of Fame..sure they would probably hit a ton of home runs, but would any of them smash the records they did if not for scamming?

I am just shocked that they didn't write a separate exam for the second day. I understand not needing to write 4 separate exams, because there was no way for the morning group to communicate with the afternoon group. But the fact that day 2 had the same test is ridiculous and extremely unfair. I thought the Key guys confirmed that multiple tests were being written? @keycapt any input on this fiasco?

From what I gather, multiple exams were written but the manner in which DCAS decided to administer this came as a surprise. Ill leave it at that. Anyway, no exam is getting thrown out. That rumor gets thrown around every time (just check old threads). As to how this is addressed, if at all, remains to be seen.

The majority of second group was still outside on line as the first group was being released, calling up their friends and getting what was asked.

The only reason why the 2017 list for sgts and lts are getting made is bc of covid extension after 1800 for 2017 sgt list u were cutting it close or not making it

Not necessarily true. They also didnt put in BMOC classes for several months during the height of COVID, and were forced to extend it. Had COVID never happened, all classes wouldve proceeded as normal and list wouldve been the same where its at now.

My take on the multiple exams issue comes down to a DCAS screwup

They prob made two tests, lets call them A and B. They didnt allow people to leave the morning test until all the afternoon people were in their seats. Which would imply that they gave the same test to both, Test A. But in reality, it seems they gave A to morning, B to afternoon, and repeated that day 2. Its just a THEORY, but i think DCAS screwed up which test they were supposed to give to which group.

At the end of the day the answers were in the patrol guide. Regardless which class you took you are always responsible to study the guide on your own. It is very unlikely for the test to be thrown out. You guys have nobody else to blame but yourselves for sharing the answers. This is a promotional exam, the fact that some of you thought that releasing answer made sense is out of this world. One thing I know is that you will always get treated like you act. You didnt give a shit about the integrity of your test, now nobody else will.

Having to administer an exam at multiple sessions/days will create issues for DCAS, as seen here. It basically comes down to two options:

1. Give the same exact exam at different sessions and different days. The pro is that everyone gets the same questions so there's no argument or lawsuit about who had an easier or harder exam. The con is that information gets leaked between sessions/days.

2. Give different exams with different questions for each session/day. The pro is that it would be virtually impossible to gather information prior to the exam. The con is that one or more exams will be easier or harder than the others which wouldn't be fair. Even if consultants came in to assign "level of difficultly" for each question and then DCAS gave an equal amount of different, yet same level of difficulty questions, it's still highly subjective and will be scrutinized (i.e. lawsuit).

Bottom line is, no matter which way DCAS handled multiple session/day examination, there's some level of unfairness to it. In my personal opinion, for whatever that's worth, I would prefer to be subjected to number 1 above and deal with a limited amount of time for other to discuss the exam, than to have to deal with a completely different exam that has potentially 100 easier or harder questions on it. In the end, some of you will come out on the winning or losing side of either proposition. Sorry you all have to deal with the nonsense......yet another reason why I am not a fan of DCAS.......

OR they could have just did it all in one day, at multiple locations. Same test, same day, same time.

That would've been the preferable route and no doubt what they desired to do however, DCAS does not possess the needed logistical infrastructure to do so (e.g. 10K+ laptops & appropriate amount of proctors to handle it all at once). Thus, you were handed this.....another DCAS fiasco......

Same date and time. Multiple locations on a laptop, you cant leave when your done and everyone gets released at the same time. No electronics inside at all.

Except this fiasco is much more serious then past. Were talking 6,000 test takers who had a advantage on day#2.

BS... they could have just administered it on paper. Why was it MANDATORY to be on a computer? It's not like we benefited from getting our score right away anyway.

DCAS probably got cheap and didnt want to pay more proctors if test was to be given same day different at locations. Just my thought. This is turning out to be the nightmare we saw coming.

the Make up exams for 2017 for military sick etc were different exams than if you actually took it on test day.. it has been done before.. thats why it makes no sense what dcas did

BINGO.. This is the best choice.. For Sgt's: one day exam, ON PAPER... at different test sites. begins and ends at same time at all sites.

All other ranks, same day, on computer..

The MAYOR needs to call the DCAS Commissioner and the DCAS "Executive Team" to the podium for answers.

This is who is responsible for this mess (not any instructors who teach the course). It's DCAS that let this happen.

DCAS "Executive Team":

this is the bottom line - if i failed or we failed, we cant blame anyone but ourselves and the rising star can concur with that. i should of read the patrol guide more to gain more knowledge on the patrol guide as it was clear there were zero judgement questions, zero math, no in-basket, one 500 word paragraph grammar question and practically all the answers were straight out of the patrol guide (no matter how obscure the procedure or line in the procedure, it was in there, i.e Active Shooter).

But, but but, even if they have a SLIGHT advantage, and its showed with facts, (passing rate is severely, extremely higher on Day 2, as compared to Day 1) then i know what i am and everyone here should do if they are in the same position: concur with a lawyer, because hey if you failed (and aren't on the list) what else do you have to lose? Just sit there and take it because thats "how the job is"? Yea ok sure well you do what you gotta do and we should do what we gotta do.

Its not a matter of pass or fail. What if you studied your a$$ off and passed this difficult exam on day 1 with lets say high 70s but because day 2 people had answers they score significantly higher simply because they had knowledge of what was tested. There is now the possibility of a very large list and not everyone being made and guess what your 70 something might not be good enough and why because people cheated? To those who bombed the test thats on you. There will be throw-outs but not enough for those who scored low 60s.sorry but thats on you not the instructors. We have to wait until the scores are posted and see what the percentages truly are.

i did. thats the problem i have. because so far i have only found a certain amount of questions i definitely got wrong, and if i barely failed and get pushed through questions getting thrown out, then i wouldn't be promoted over the "this was a fair test but i barely studied" people with a teeny tiny higher score than mine. im 100% in agreeance with you.
