What time did your test actually start?

RamJamFlamSong wrote:

From what I understand, and from whom I've spoken too the afternoon exam asked the same exact questions. They got the same rubbish questions. For those who compared the exam to the rising star, I passed all four rising star exams, this test felt petty(er) and hit more obscure details then imaginable. I congratulate the sergeants who wrote the exam, a job well done, I hope they enjoy the transports and hospitalized prisoners they will inevitably have to sit on thanks to a paucity of POs and a downshifting of rank responsibilities. The precursors to November 7th, 1917 surround us once again, and same as before; those tasked with the preservation of the union have been abandoned and scapegoated by an oligarchy of adulteration.

WTF! This exam turned this guy into a full blown EDP!

As always, DCAS has proven incapable of administering an exam without controversy. As always, Mike is MIA when students realize he sold a false bill of goods (ranking procedures has been a mistake since the 1990s exam cycles. Everything is fair game). As always, the job doesnt forcefully push DCAS enough for more control over the exams. Since 2013 or so, a vendor being paid millions has carte blanche to alter, edit, revise questions as they are fit in the name of equity. This was FOILd a while back and discussed here. But in fairness, thats DCAS, not 1PP.

Nevertheless, while I sense 2015 LT vibes in terms of WTF, it seems there is greater likelihood that studiers passed (though maybe not as high as hoped). When people ask me about the 2015 exam I essentially tell them imagine studying the patrol guide for six months only to walk in to a chemistry exam. As usual, this job/city obsession with mediocrity has resulted in the demoralization of 10k+ test takers. Im sorry. Ive been around the promo game since 2011 SGT and every cycle its like dejavu. And they wonder why no one recommends this job. I feel for the Tier 3 crew, for whom promotion is nearly essential to retire comfortably. I wish you all best of luck. Ive been there, and its one of the worst feelings on earth.

With all this lists floating around in group chats they might as well give these dudes an open book exam tomorrow . Shout out to myself for signing up for the exam day one. Lmao, that got me a 7:30 start time on the first day. I shouldve waited.

In mikes defense, almost all of the procedures being tested were found in his packets. Only thing is that some of the questions were just so horribly written and some even had two right answers! Fights not over my friends ! Well take this to the protest session and ensure to get 11+ questions dropped like the 2017 sgts exam.

everything Is fair game but if these guys show a pattern in what they ask on these exams it does logically make sense to rank those procedures higher than ones that barely get tested. With that said I just saw a wanted flyer for Mike for grand larceny and I cant stop laughing.

Eh... to be honest, it'll be a different exam... plus, scrambling to read all those procedures in one night isn't really going to help anyone. I just hope tomorrow's test is the same level of difficulty, for the sake of fairness.

There wasn't 11 throw outs.  That exam was curved by a large margin.  Hopefully it happens again for you guys.  Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you.  I know the feeling of uncertainty.  The promotional process is borderline abusive.  Just try and stay positive and take it one day at time.  If I hear anything in the coming months I'll let you guys know, but this new administration plays things obscenely close to the chest, and changes their minds on things even more than the previous one.

I will never know if this exam was a kin to the 2015 LT's exam but from how I feel and what others are saying, it sure seems all sorts of FUBAR. I love your analogy equating the 2015 exam to a chemistry exam but I believe this brings out one glaring issue in our promotional exam process. Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and a myriad of other academic exams have one thing in common; a basis in logic and reason, an unrelenting pursuit of the truth. Instead, what we have here today is an eclectic mix of esoteric facts based on nothing more then paying tribute to vestiges of the past. For any organization to advance forward logic and reason must prevail, yet what we saw here today is such that all S do not equal P.

The main issue with the 2015 lt exam was that it had a rate of like 1% passing on the regular test and 80% for the makeup exam

As soon as I heard that DCAS is enforcing an indoor mask policy, I knew this was going to be another promotional exam fiasco!     they enjoy toying with peoples careers. From the extra expermiental sgt exam questions that one exam, from Captain Insanos 2015 Lt exam, from the disparate impact exam expert. They do not care.

And to Yanos credit he puts his heart and soul into his course, by far the hardest working guy in the promotional school business. With that said, it appears that Ed & Tony knocked it out the park again. You might learn basics from elite & the key, but the best insurance policy out there is rising star. Im sure their sales will be through the roof for the Upcoming Lt exam

I don't see how any of the course instructors could be to blame for any of this. They all did a wonderful job, and were honestly probably boss fighters back in the day. The debacle we were just apart of is the result of an absent, egotistical, and vengeful NYPD. Without the leadership of George Mifsud I likely would not be able to muster the strength the make my self-righteous posts.

To be honest, the prep schools are being phased out. What you need to study is listed in the NOE, It's US who put our blind faith in these schools. They rank procedures on what THEY think is a 5,4,3 or whatever. Then we see what we call 1,2 procedures and we flip out. Ofcourse they sent test writwrs to the school, its not rocket science, how do you weed out 12k testers to make a list of 1900......Lesson learned..... go old school, read it all and make your own questions and index cards. Or or or fork over hundreds of dollars for 8 hour cram after the regular cram and then the breakdown cram of the cram mixed with cram. It's a buisness, end of story. It all began when they came together to get rid of the free Police Academy material. Stop blindly throwing your money away, sacrifice your time and do it yourself or better yet, come together and teach each other. Stop competing.

Just curious for your next promotional exam:

If the ranking system is in the past how will you decide what to study the most?

Guys, I completely get the rage and disappointment but your anger should be towards DCAS and exam writers, not the classes.

After speaking to numerous people, barely any 1 or 2 procedures were mentioned. The majority of questions were taught. The issue lies in how badly written these questions were. I am pretty confident that if you all sat down and took a properly written test, testing the same exact points, you'd all do a lot better.

As far as the job trying to purposely make a small list just isnt true. The last exam, only 1200ish (before curve) passed out of 11,000 and that was one of the most straightforward exams given. They are going to exhaust this 2700+ list, when historically we all thought it would die around 1800ish. People are resigning and retiring in numbers never seen before. They need a large list.

They either are going to:
1) Have a list too small and will need to another exam in short time
2) Apply a curve and increase list
3) Throwout numerous questions to make up for all the probable incoming lawsuits

At this point, you all should take that anger, and use it together, compile an answer sheet (after last group has tested), and work together to find verifiable and concrete reasons to protest as many questions as possible.

I definitely agree at the end of the day we are the ones that took the test we are the ones that was supposed to study the material all of the anger should be at dcas I am mad at dcas. They were very disorganized with the line and the fact that we started late just made things even worse . By the time I was done with that test my head was pounding . So I'm sure that they are going to have no choice but to accommodate us . I'm not mad at Mike and I'm sure as hell not mad at the key or Rising Star they provided all of the information that we needed decas is the one that messed it up. I signed up for the PRS and I will be there whether I pass or failed. I promise you if all of us show up in strength and protest this will help everybody. I truly believe that they may either do a curve or massive throw outs how many and how much is going to be determined. And you are right everyone is leaving in massive droves so they are going to need sergeants to take place of the ones who are leaving.

Guys, relax. I think everyone did better than they think. When I took last Sgt test, I thought I was borderline with 68 or 71. Ended up in the 90s. Everyone I spoke to at that time who said test was easy failed measurably. Most people who said test was hard and confusing did very well. I think its because of your knowledge that you were able to see all the faults with questions and possibility of double answers or perhaps seeing that the correct answer is not fully correct but best of 4 available. Wait till your test scores. You might be pleasantly surprised.

PROTEST PROTEST PROTEST

literally the best thing you can do for a poorly written test. Not only did it add a ton of points for people on the 2017 test (aside from the curve) it is also what will show DCAS that they wrote a crap test...

don't have the attitude that "oh my buddy is protesting I don't need to go." NO, get off your ass and spend a few hours doing the protest. It is TOTALLY WORTH IT - for you, and your fellow colleagues.

Buyer beware, I guess. Cant believe people would put their faith in Yano who is a one man show when the Key and Rising Star was literally a team of former chiefs, test writers, and top scorers on their exam. Saw their bios and figured this was the best bet and I have no regrets now re-examining the material, rising Star questions and comparing them to what I recalled on that exam

Friend just got out I rattled 5 questions from yesterdays exam and he said that was exactly on his test and also no fucking math question. The same stupid spelling error question. Im sure once someone FOIL's the shit out of DCAS Aug 4th test takers are going to have a higher percentage than Aug 3rd test takers. There has to be throw-outs and a curve coming our way how can this test be validated if not.

Shame on the people who gave out questions and answers to people taking the exam on day 2. These people will now score higher then you, and will thus making your list# drop drastically.

I foresee a curve if today's test takers score higher than yesterday's (which is likely).

Judging by what people are saying, it was a poorly written exam (which isn't at all surprising) considering that the NYPD never selects the most qualified people to write these exams. Instead, they select people that are "hooked up" and want the summer off.

EVERYONE needs to attend the protests sessions. Don't sit idly by and expect others to do the work for you, go and protest the shit out of this exam. Also, if anyone knows who the exam writers are, give them a nice punch in the face on behalf of the 12,000 cops that had to suffer through another atrocious exam.
