I'm just hoping it's not on a computer. It makes a huge difference to be able to WRITE on the question, circle key words, write notes, cross out stuff you know is wrong, etc. You're at a huge disadvantage if you can only see a screen with no way of interacting with what's on the screen. Plus, I don't trust computers... what happens if the computer you're using crashes during the exam? Or some other failure causes your progress to be lost?

I don't care if this ends up being an easy exam, or the hardest one in history. Just please let it be on paper.

I agree. The Department's computers these days aren't always that well. And yes being able to write answers down as well as being able to write things down is always helpful also if it is on computer how do we know we will be able to go back let's just say if we put a wrong answer for a question will the computer let us go back and change it or once we put it that's it. Hopefully in the coming weeks maybe a month or two we will get a little bit more clarity. Still I wish they would give us a little bit more time to study we literally have only three months if that

Guys, you will be taking the exam, if true, on DCAS computers. Not a department computer.

DCAS is probably less organized than the NYPD so this isn't a good thing.

the good thing about taking it on computers is you get your score right there. thats how theyve been doing it for the Captains

Is that confirmed by a Captain that took the test or are you just assuming?

If you take  it on a computer,  you  will know your results as soon as you finish. I took the 2017 Capt test so I can confirm thats true. Good luck  guys!

Can confirm that the 2017 Capts exam was on the computer with the results given at the end as well.

Did you get hard copies of the question?

You got scrap paper that they collected at the end and there were no hard copies of the exam; in basket included. It was actually easier this way but a bit nerve racking since it was the first time I took a dept exam that way.

Thanks. Now, when you answered a question and clicked submit, would you be able to go back to it later for review or no?

They are probably waiting until after March 22nd to see how many people sign up, and from there decide weather or not they can do it on the computer . Just my opinion

I was thinking the same... and I have a feeling they're gunna realize they won't be able to accommodate nearly 10,000 people for a computerized test, and will likely administer it on paper. But who knows. Would also be nice if we could get a cutoff date already.

Yes, you are able to go back and review your answers to the questions before submitting.

Typical sgt exam sign up has been about 10k consistently. You will most likely enjoy computer if its offered. The score on the spot will probably overcome any negative you can think of. Yes you can go back to any question at any point including skipping questions. I guess one downside is you cant highlight. But I heard certain exams the proctors wouldnt let you bring in highlighters. Not sure if thats still true

This is mostly for the people who are taking elite. When yall are studying, are you going back and reviewing stuff from the earlier weeks ? (202,304,etc) Or do you stick to just the current content ?

Studying for these exams is like spinning plates. You focus on the new plate but at some time the old plates will need to be spun again so they dont fall. Its slot and can be overwhelming, but you absolutely need to review past sections

Nobody knows except DCAS. Maybe they push it back a month to July? Just my opinion but with the current list expiring in January I dont see them pushing it back past July. It takes time to grade a test and establish a new list. For now keep studying as if test is June 6th because thats all we really know.

Greetings all. Has anyone heard from personal sources, or test prep schools when they think the exam is going to be.. or when DCAS is expected to announce the cut off date/ material on the exam.

DCAS is insisting that the cut-off date be February 9, 2022. Obviously this is something that the NYPD is fighting, for obvious reasons. 1. No one was notified; 2. There have been numerous changes to the PG since 2/9 and it would be difficult to to republish old procedures simply for the sgt exam (plus it just doesn't make sense). On top of this, DCAS still does not have the schools needed for a June 6 exam.

Hopefully there is a resolution sometime this week--we will keep you updated if we hear anything.

Oh god... I just spent a few days re-learning the new 207 stuff. I would be furious.

So far this exam is going in the direction of being an absolute disaster.

What you mean by that ? Cant they just use the testing facilities they use for open competitive tests ?

Wow...that would be unprecedented, f***ed up, and if it happens, will be one of the cruelest things to happen with promotional exams since the 2015 LT. Old procedures can't even be found on the intranet!

No, there are too many people who take SGT and LT exams to fit in DCAS testing centers on one day, unless the rumors hold that they plan to hold the exam over several days in those testing centers. The exams are traditionally held in NYC public high schools throughout the city.

Here’s the latest update as of close of business today: the cut-off date will be announced Wednesday, 4/6. The cut-off will either be 2/9 or 3/16; DCAS and the Department are still in talks regarding this.

On our end, instructors from the Key and Rising Star are reaching out to DCAS to advocate for a 3/16 cut-off date. We will keep you advised of any new information as they develop.

I can see it getting pushed back. Like eze mentioned above they dont have the public schools for it ready, classes will still be in session June 6. Also a class went in July 2019 that the department will probably try to Accommodate. Could see it getting pushed into July. But who knows. Hopefully more info soon.

The test WILL BE IN JUNE. Whether its June 6th, June 13th or June 30th, they want the test to be administered in June.

The exam writers were selected weeks ago so that's in the works.

As for the location, they are not using High Schools/Middle Schools as they have done so in the past. If they use schools, it will be a college like Queens College etc. so the date of June 6th does not conflict with classes being administered.

Prepare as if the exam is on June 6th and if gets pushed back to the end of June, you have a few extra weeks to study.

Damn, Eze called it! Wouldn't be surprised if they had something to do with it. Any earlier would have been a real mess for people studying. Although ANY backdated cut-off is just messed up in general...

Will they be revealing on the 6th what will be on the test, a solid test date and if its going to be paper or not in addition to the cutoff date ?

Thanks! This could not have been done without collaboration from the Key, as well! We’re all glad common sense prevailed.

Perhaps our next move should be to make DCAS tell us what specific procedures will be on the exam.

Together Ed, Tony and all of us at The Key are working hard to improve the overall testing process for the future. As you have read DCAS wanted the cut-off date to be 2/9/22 which would have caused chaos for all the studiers. We were able to change the date to 3/16/22. Yes it's backdated but that's irrelevant since that last I.O. published was on 3/16/22. Just an FYI, all the new changes to 207 are in play for the test. The two BEST schools collaborating in your corner......

Just curious how does a private business entity tells City agency what they want or how to run things?

SMH really..Its not a matter of HOW they (rising Star, key) wants to run things. These are both companies with a wealth of experience, petitioning and making suggestions for the right thing to be done On behalf of the students.  How anyone could find something To complain about is beyond me..
