Everyone has a different opinion on this. And everyone who says they know for a fact contradicts someone else who says they know for a fact but. Want to know the truth? Well out find out whose right on the one year anniversary of the first Sgt class that got the bump.
you go to the 2nd to last step(the step before top pay)...i believe theres a scheduled contractual pay increase in march, so that bump up is definite...like previous posters said tho, we wont know until the 1st class hits their one year anniversary...did the Lt from contracts or whatever come in and get everyone pumped up that they were going to top pay like they did with my group 6 months ago?
Everyone will know for sure when that 2017 April class hits their first year..... then again we all getting a bump in March 2018 so I wouldnt be surprised if that class doesnt move anywhere and stay on that step until their 4th year. Still a win-win situation considering theyre getting paid more than those from the February 2017 class.

I cant wait until a one year Sgt will make more than a 3 year Sgt next month. Reason why union hasnt said anything or has skirt around the issue is because its true. Union lies to me? Union creating 2 different sets of sergeants? I say to hell with the SBA and lets opt to withdraw our union dues!! How about Mullins sending out a real answer to the biggest question there is about the contract problem? Do we have to sue to get our money? If SBA will not honor the sergeants that came before this snafu, then I say I will not honor my union dues anymore

I spoke to the SBA. They said there's nothing that can be done. City went out of pattern with the cops and gave them better raises. The union is suing the city for going out of pattern, but it won't affect our contracts. They also said the sergeants will NOT be going to top pay. You can (and should) call and they'll explain it better. Basically I was told we lost this one and the give backs the city wants to make it right are too expensive.
i think for all of us who this issue effects should try to sue...not our fault the city negotiated with the pba and gave them higher pay than newly promoted sergeants. how can they keep us at the same step for four years? i know it sucks for the guys who are making less with longer time in rank but thats not our fault. got promoted in the july class...they said top pay in 1 year. the city should honor what they said and do whats right.

SBA also told me there's nothing on paper that says when you get promoted you have to get a raise. There's no civil service law, nothing in the city charter etc. Just something the city has previously honored.
Call the SBA and ask whats going on with your contract. Say you want to know what to plan for as far as raises go. They'll explain it to you.
This is the month where a rookie Sgt will make too pay sooner than a Sgt who scored higher on the exam. And the SBA wants these Sgts to keep quiet about it. Cant wait for the bloodbath. A tale of 2 cities. A tale of 2 Sgt ranks.
The two classes from this list are at 1st step Sgt pay. Their 80:00 gross pay is more than a top pay cop. Ask the new guys at your commands, theyre not happy about it.
SBA did a complete 180 and are now telling everyone its not happening and that they never said people are going to top pay. They very clearly did, in just about every BMOC for 6 months.
nope. not the first check in june. they wouldve got it this past check. the first class went in over a year ago. thank god. ive waited over 3 years. sorry guys. you have to wait too. wouldve happened already this past paycheck.
We're only talking about maybe 50 cops that would have been affected in the last check. I don't think we necessarily would have had to of heard about it. Especially since the SBA was telling them to be tight lipped about it and not tell other sergeants in the beginning.
lmao. tight lipped? 50 cops on this job? please. if they hit top pay it wouldve spread like wildfire. they didnt hit top pay. nor will they hit top pay nor do they deserve top pay. im just saying. we all had to wait. its only fair. And the SBA didnt tell them to be tight lipped about it...The SBA told them if they get it, then they get it. If not, then thats up to the city. SBA didnt guarantee anything.
