A couple of tours ago, two officers (one being an admitted hairbag) tussled with a resisting perp. The perp had just assaulted an elderly woman and, while being handcuffed, flailed his arms and swatted the hairbag's 8 point cap which drove that idiotically placed screw into the hairbag's forehead. In a moment of what can only be deemed as pure bravado, PO Hairbag waved off any medical attention. However, the officer soon realized that not only was he bleeding from the forehead but the EDP perp had an infectious disease. He notified the platoon commander, who ultimately denied his LOD designation for the simple reason that PO Hairbag initially claimed he was "ok" after the scuffle. Despite a corroborating witness statement from the A/O, the platoon commander refused to budge from his findings.
Maybe some of us can overlook the fact that this supervisor has spent most of his illustrious career in the rat squad. But when that same platoon commander returned to work the following day (some 18 hours later) and visited the hospital in order to justify the exposure number he secured for HIMSELF, after being spit at by the perp, he lost any credibility of being a neutral supervisor. In fact, he cemented his reputation as Lt. One Way.
I guess this outstanding boss believes that certain standards only apply to those beneath him. He believed he was ok for the duration of his tour and went home afterwards. However, when PO Hairbag hesitated for only a moment, Lt. One Way not only denied his LOD designation but also claimed he was negligent in reporting the injury. A very curios double standard.
