Yea youre right its just a test. No big deal. Its not like you had the opportunity to study for 13 months. Not like you had No social life For that long.. nothing to worry about. Just gotta salute the Desk for a couple of more years.. I mean whats the big deal sergeant isnt such a big jump. dont Stress there will be another test in a couple of years. I know guys whove failed it 4 times. Keep your head up.
LOL @ no big deal...those comments come from people who are cops for 20 plus years in the same command, working the same tour and same sector their whole career.
But hey, that guy is right, NO BIG DEAL !!!
Yea its no big deal to me I mean I passed. THEY DONT WANT YOU TO PASS BUT I PASSED ANYWAYS! THEY DONT WANT YOU EATING GOOD
The FIT unit hadnt received the list as of a few days ago. I called to set up a date for the run/jst and inquired about it. They briefly explained how the process worked in previous years. Hopefully DCAS isnt slow with readjusting the list with updated scores and passers.
Looks like the today rumor passed around quick. Lots of rumors today about the list coming out today. I honestly havnt heard a thing from good sources as far as a list though so I cant say ive heard anything from anyone legit as far as that.
On a positive note, we all know this process sucks and its extremely frustrating. But guys, we are close, and at least we have news. We will be waiting much much much less then weve already had.
Good luck to those who need it.

100% agree. Can this thing please come out already!?
Honestly, everyone should just put late November in their minds. You can enjoy Thanksgiving with either of your dysfunctional families (Home or NYPD) in peace .... lol.

I can't really explain the whole thing as I really didn't get that good of an explanation. Simply stated, DCAS sends them an unofficial list and the points get added. Also, it sounds like it gets double checked too. He may have said that they first send the names to DCAS and then they get an unofficial list. Not sure the exact order of business. Regardless, it doesn't sound like it's a very comprehensive or lengthy process but it be will dependent on how quickly DCAS acts. From my understanding, everything at the FIT unit is computerized so that should make it somewhat simple considering the fact that so many people don't even participate in the yearly assessment. It may seem like nothing but it can be quite significant. I did it for three years and I accumulated 1.5 points. I scored high so the points aren't significant for me but for someone who got in the 70s to a low 80 they can be huge. When I went last year for the run there were five people in total participating that day! Also, for the guys that did do it, make sure when the list comes out you check that they were calculated properly. I looked back at the 2011 forum and some people had their fitness points missing. So just be aware of that. Good luck.
Has anyone who claimed veteran points get a verification letter yet? A veteran who originally failed the exam but picked up points should also be getting a letter to verify points if they requested them.
Here is a rumor I heard. Once again a rumor. If the list doesn't come out the first week of November then it will come out right before Christmas. There are no vacancies for sgt due to over promotion.
And honestly that sounds like a legit rumor. They arent promoting any new Sgts anytime soon. So I guess in their mind theres no rush to release the list.
Yeah if you just use an average promotional rate, the 2013 list wouldn't have been exhausted until about March if it wasn't for the mass promotions. Unfortunately it makes some sense, we might be waiting a while. Not necessarily for the list but for promotions, which, after all, is really what matters.
So the consensus was that sgts arent really needed right now because of the overage of promotions so that rhe guys on the old list can take the Lts exam.
Seems false. In the Lts board as of October 2nd they posted a department personnel data sheet showing there are 59 Sgt. Vacancies and 36 Sgts on Terminal Leave (future retirees I guess ?).
I was reading that as well, pretty surprising considering the mass hiring of Sgts April-July. The vacancy #s can only increase from this point forward. The only issue is that... there's still no freakin' list to hire from yet. WHERE IS IT?!?!
Well if no ones gonna be promoted till next year thats fine. But if there are vacancies now that only means theyll increase as the months pass. Which would mean the first few classes willbe big due to high vacancies ?
I know it sucks, but be patient guys. Just imagine if the list comes out super late, but the department decides to put in huge back to back classes to fill in vacancies and list #s blow into the deep 100s. Imagine how awesome that would feel as opposed to having a list released that isnt being touched.
Another week comes to a close, still nada - those TVB posts had me optimistic.
Since I have plenty of time on my hands today, I did a little research on the previous Sgts exams:
For the Feb 7 , 2009 Sgts test, the 781 person list came out March 19, 2010 (From test day to release of list: Over a year, or approx 405 days). For the Oct 15, 2011 Sgts test, the 1,663 person list came out April 4, 2012 (From test day to release of list: A little under 6 months, or approx 172 days). For the Oct 19, 2013 Sgts test, the 932 person list came out June 18, 2014 (From test day to release of list: About 8 months, or approx 242 days).
For our Feb 22, 2017 test, from test day to now it has been over 7 months or approx 233 days.
The only conclusion from this information is that there's no rhyme or reason on how long it takes DCAS to finalize and release a list.

looks like that first list u posted, the 2009 list was over a year long wait. feb7,2009 to march 19,2010. Thats a hell of a wait.
Good catch, I screwed up the date calculator, updated & fixed now. If you look at the 2009 Sgts forum, those guys waited an eternity for that thing to come out. Hope we don't have to wait as long.
Here is what we facing: 1. Over promotion of sgt to make this lt test. 2. No vacancies 3. Sgt contract is in shambles/chaos. 4. Those that score low if this list prolongs they now face three years wonders in 2019.

3. The Sgts contract is fine. They voted & agreed on the current contract (which has a built-in 'no reopener clause') and besides, the pay difference will get fixed in March/April when their next pay bump comes. They already hired a lot of bosses under these conditions, obviously the job thought it was fine.
4. Not quite sure what you mean there.
I could be wrong here, but DCAS releasing a list and the job actually hiring from that list are 2 separate things. I hope. I need to go do something else because I'll grind my teeth down looking at this message board lol.
I'm trying to be optimistic here!

One thing has not changed is April they plan to start hiring from our exam. If there's any truth to that why would dcas bring out a list 7 months early.
The 2013 list came out in June 2014 and sat untouched for well over a year. Most civil service lists for the city come out way before theyre established. There is a published date and established date. Clock begins ticking when the list is established.
I dont know how long it takes DCAS to adjust the list but we all know how slow any type of city government can be. Hopefully well see it before the end of the year. Im curious to see the breakdown of scores compared to past exams.

Word on the street is no one knows ****! All these speculations and not one person has solid information that would help knowing when this list is coming out!
For the Oct 19, 2013 Sgts test, the 932 person list came out June 18, 2014 (From test day to release of list: About 8 months, or approx 242 days).
But they STARTED PROMOTING FOR THE 2013 list in December 2015, thats a year and a half after the list came out and 2 year and 2 months after they took that exam.

By the time the 2013 list came out, there were still 500 people left on the 2011 list that they had to promote. That took time. We won't have that issue, the 2013 list is basically done. Once our list comes out, the job could start hiring from it right then and there.... if they wanted to. Lets hope for the best!
Im hearing that for the first time ever, we might recieve our official scores from dcas well before the list comes out. Supposedly 2-3 weeks and our official scores will be in the mail. Just a hear-say rumor.
There were 2 different exams. The make up test was a different exam with different questions. Does anyone know if the 2 throw outs and 3 double answers are coming from the first exam or the make up exam or a combo of both.

I was the one of 16 who took the make up exam. I can assure you none of the questions were the same from the first test. different sections were tested and if the section was the same as the first test it was a differen question from that section.
