Figure 6 months from conclusion of the protest sessions. They will need to go in front of an administrative judge to get questions thrown out gather all the info and what not. I figure September - October to be safe.
I agree with the list being established around late aug / early september.
You think they aren't going to put in any sergeant classes from July all the way until the new year though? I have no inside info or anything like that but that just seems like a long time with no sergeant classes.
If the last class was like April/may then I'd say they would've tried to get a class or two in. But with how many Sgt's they promtoted so quickly to get eligible for the LT test and the lack of Sgt's being promoted to LT or retiring I believe they have more sgts then they really need. Let's say the list is set in September. There's a chance for an october class, but then I'd bet they take Nov and dec off for the holidays
Yea, I see what you're saying. I would think now they probably have a little bit of an excess of sgts. But who knows, maybe they might want to increase supervision in a department that's constantly under the microscope. For now ill be happy with getting seeing the list to at least have somewhat of an idea of what we are working with.
BoneSawIsReady said it best... It'll be few months after the TVB. Only issue I see is because so many people had to go see their scores at DCAS more people protested which would make the TVB process take more time than usual. So DCAS created a delay just by not posting answer key and so did we by saying "since I'm here might as well protest every question I got wrong." Now 3 Sgt's will have to sit and read all of that and come to a conclusion BEFORE the list is established. So boys/girls grab a snickers...
this is the worst part...the wait. dont take into consideration that the department needs the list NOW since they just finished a list. DCAS does not care. best of luck!
Lt Ng told the last sgt bmoc that they might not promote off the next list until April because they just promoted so many sgts. Can anyone else confirm that?
Depends on how many extra Sgts there are now compared to how many the job actually needed... but 9 months without hiring a
ANY Sgts? I find it difficult to believe.
i dont find it hard to believe at all. in fact it kind of makes sense now that there is an issue with the current sba contract and newly promoted sergeants reaching top pay after a year in rank. they may want to get the contract situation taken care of before they start promoting off of this 2017 list. so if the sergeants union cant renegotiate a new deal until next march maybe we will be waiting for months before this list comes out. not only do we have an overage of sergeants but now we have a contractual issue.
no way. we'll still be aight. but no one is getting made off our list before november. im fairly confident. no list until sept/october no promotions before november but likely early next year. this top pay in 1 year for new sergeants just added a huge problem for us. before it was just the overage. now its the overage of sergeants and the contract. were waiting for a while.
latest rumor im hearing (from a good source) is that dcas isnt going to put our list out until fall time (october/november), and the job wont start promoting from our list until march 2018 because of the current sergeants contract. if they promoted us sooner than march of 2018 than those sergeants would reach top pay after one year due to the fact that the sergeants start at step 3 and the city cant open up negotiations on this sergeants contract. And the job can do this because they arent really promoting lieutenants so they arent losing alot of sergeants. All they have to do is put in a few big classes starting in march 2018 and they'll make up not promoting for these few months at the end of 2017.
List will be out next month. They arent over budget because there are lt classes going in. They are gonna hire almost 100 lts by the next two months. So there will be sgt vacancies. No way they will stop promoting sgts for 7 months.
The boss at the current leadership course mentioned not to expect a class go in from the 2017 exam until March or April of 2018. They might have 1 more class going in from now until then with as many passovers as they can clear but that's about it. Once the new list begins to promote it will automatically kill the '13 list with it's remainder passovers.
if this is true, it would lend validity to the 1 year to top pay theory. i still cant figure why the job promoted so many so fast. i really thought it was due to the NCO Program .
Not to discredit the theory cause I'm sure there's plenty of creedance to it but the supervisor at leadership training doesn't make the call when to promote.
Lt of Uniformed Promotions did in fact state that promotions will start in March/April 2018. Now, do I think that is probable? No. But it did come straight from his mouth so as of now that's the only concrete thing we have to go on.
Lt Ng hasnt been wrong yet on anything he has stated. He was dead on right about the last 3 sergeant classes and when they were going in. A lot of people had a hard time believing that they would zip through the 2013 list before end of july so they could take the lieutenant exam in august and he was right about that. If hes saying no classes are going in until march/april 2018 im going to take his word. Not enough sergeants retiring or getting promoted to lieutenant, and not enough lieutenants retiring or moving up in rank for the job to keep filling in sergeant slots. Couple in the fact that only a small class of 400+ in the academy now started in april and crime continues to drop...sounds like the city and the job is in no rush to promote with affects the number of people to hire which affects overall movement. Only big consistent movement ive seen lately is in the detective bureau.

sounds about right but those big classes in the late 90's which were all over 2000 are all hitting 20 coming up soon.. so by time list starts going hopefully it will move quick.. I gotta wait til Jan 19 to get promoted and scored pretty high so just hoping I get called right at 5 years
i always heard from my bosses that it takes approximatley 6 months for the list to come out. So the 3rd week in august gives us just about six months since the exam.
The TVB process has begun and it wont be over until either start of september or end of this month. As far as when a list will be out,
Truth is no one knows. But I csn 110% confirm that the test is being reviewed for throwouts. Thats the only fact right now. And it is
A good one. That means soon enough we will have our list. We are getting closer.
