http://legislation.nysenate.gov/pdf/bills/2015/A10588

Heard this was signed into law today through the grapevine...  Can anyone confirm?

It means that if you're a Sgt with 15 years in the rank you will retire with an SDS/SSA/LT pension.

Has there been anything similar as far as LT go even though this hasn't been officially passed

Yes, there is a similar bill for 15+ year Lts to get LSA/LCD pension.

What's the next step with this? Has it already been approved? Just a pipe dream? If they have it for Capt and above I don't see why it's not reasonable for Sgts/Lts also

Just have to wait and see what happens....  Nobody knows if it will be approved, but if Captains have the same provision (5 years - DI pension, 10 years - Inspector pension, 15 years - Dep Chief pension), you would think that it *should* be approved.  That Deputy Chief pension provision was approved just one year ago, and if you look at the vote it was overwhelmingly approved.  It wasn't something that was passed on the skin of its teeth.  You can create an account at nysenate.gov and follow this and all other bills proposed in NY State, something good to do if you're a civil servant anyway.  Good to be informed.

I'm gonna sign up at nysenate.gov right now. Intetesting fact about the deputy chief provision last year. Let's hope it passes

The stress of 15yrs on patrol as a Sgt would certainly equal an early grave, and the city would win on this one....  Hopefully the majority of the 15 years will be in a good gig for anyone interested!
