Yea I got it just now. In a nutshell, they will promote, the test will not be curved or changed cause it was "certified" they will "work" with dcas not to give exams on Saturday and they are investigating blah blah blah. Basically what we already know. The only thing they are going to do is try and hang a few of these cheaters.. But you know what, they allowed these people to take the exam months later. Ocourse they are going to have an advantage and possibly over hear what's going to be on the exam but now they want to crucify them cause they got a lawsuit, meanwhile this been going on for years and you allowed them? What needs to be looked into is who approved/reviewed this disaster of an exam ? Who gave this man the authority to be a part of this exam knowing what he is capable of? Why were questions that we're clearly flawed overlooked ? I agree that a promotional exam should be very difficult but it should not be written purposesly in trickery and the majority should consist of questions relating to our everyday duties to at least give the test taker a fighting chance of passing .
What is the process of DCAS certifying the questions asked on this exam?? That means DCAS can ask whatever questions they want on these exams, and no one can do anything about it.. This whole process has to be evaluated, including the certification of these exams.
DCAS has to and should be held accountable. There has to be some higher authority they must answer to. Does anyone know anything about this certification process. This was far from a perfect written exam to have zero throw outs and for that to have certified.
This job is a joke and it is hard to take this joke as a job.

The list was "certified" so there is nothing to do? That's comforting! There is always something to do and I hope the judge gets to the bottom of this. DOS EQUIS puts it eloquently, how can you certify a list with no changes after so many flaws? Certifying it as is was just another major flaw in itself and DCAS is well awared of this.
Before the list came out many of us wrote to the commissioner of DCAS to really take a look at the exam and she of course, because of her lack of leadership, lack of desire to do her job right, our requests were made to deft ears! Now because of the lawsuit both the job and DCAS were forced to have a listen, but they still don't have the intention to do anything about it. It's all smoke and mirrors!
They need to rate the difficulty of the test, that inbasket and generate a list with the top 600. Anyone that scored 60 or above put in the work and should be on that list.
Also want to add, as we all know, DCAS and the job are the ones that have encouraged the cheating. Cops always adapt to the situation, it's what they do. The cheating is just a way out to the atrocious exams DCAS have been creating for the last 5 years or so... Research, inconsistent questions... my rant could be endless.

This is an article written by an old timer who took the Lieutenant Exam in 1971. From the article:
"The ground rules for the exam were simple. All 2,300 NYPD sergeant candidates for the rank of lieutenant would be taking a multiple-choice exam of 135 questions, and the passing mark would be the score of the 200th successful candidate including ties."
He also mentions in the article that he scored a 75% and his list number was 50. Sounds eerily similar to what's happening today. The difference today is the sense of entitlement of the cry babies on here. 200 people is an acceptable list to the NYPD, and it has been since at least 1971.
What makes you think you are entitled to be on a list just because you "put in the work?" It's designed to be difficult and challenging, they don't want everyone to pass.
Here in America there are winners and losers. Accept it and move on.

Agreed, they also hired a lawyer who makes a career of suing cops and PDs. Time to chalk it up as a loss and move on already.
A never ending argument between those of you that got LUCKY, and those that ended in the 60s. I've moved on a long time ago, but it should never be okay to have a career based on luck or be forced to cheat to take the luck out of the equation.
Even if the test is given relative easy only the top % on the list would still be the ones getting promoted.

No luck here pal. I was a top scorer on my sgts exam and passed a very difficult LTs exam. They have given easy exams where the lists get cut. Same people would prob be suing over that. Fact is no one has a "right" to be promoted. PC can pass over for anything he wants. Time to move on. Maybe the next exam will be a ground ball.
Lucky is a strong term ... I burned 37 days plastered notes all over my apartment and even took the damn 2013 sgt course as a refresher when I was already a damn sgt to prepare for this test ... Not my fault guys that said I was a edp and " going way too hard " and said " u take ur 90 I'll take my 70" crashed and burned
It's a damn lt test if you thought this was going to be a 2011 sgts test oh well ... As far as the tvb goes yeah that is an atrocity ... But we knew in the back of our heads no instructors allowed was going to be damning
At this point everyone is in it for themselves ... The 9 and guys that failed are willing to screw the guys that passed the right way just for a Hail Mary chance of gettin on this list
So to guys that want to watch me burn unnecessarily because you did I hope your participation promotion never ever comes
Because no amount of hardwork guarantees a passing score is the reason all you LUCKY passers are TERRIFIED to having to take that test again and hating on those that brought the lawsuit.
You all know that there wouldn't be any guarantees of passing again no matter how hard you prepare like many of us did. Your career advancement would be in the hands of DCAS, whether it was a fair test or not, whether the thrown "research questions" went your way or not, whether they allow you to cheat or... You guys are trying to deny those facts in hope that everything stays as is because you guys got lucky this time, but there is a lot of work to be done fellas.
Those 9 will never be promoted. They failed and unfortunately, as the PC has implied, there will be no suing their way onto the list. The fact that not one of them passed also makes their case very difficult. As the City puts it in their response, they have no legitimate recourse and are basically just a group of disgruntled failures trying to push an agenda.
Trust me I'm not terrified .... Me taking another test having it be a fair one ... Being at the top and you probably passing and dieing on the list because it's 900 names doesn't worry me too much ... I just find it obnoxious I have to deal with babies when I passed ... People that failed that's a you problem not a me problem . I'm all for it was unfair ... But welcome to life ...... Ok my neighbor has a nicer car than me ... Ok I guess I should just torch it then ??
Less time on rising star man ... Just study for Christ sakes

Lmao @ "terrified". I've passed and/or beaten the nine 2x and I could do it agaim with ease. Go pay ur cop hating civil rights attorney some more money.

If it was like the 2006 Lt exam, we'd all score 90s easily. Then these 9 would sue when the list got cut and they didn't get made. whether the exam is easy or hard, people will always look to blame anyone but themselves.
You're right. Less time in rising star, get ready for my 4x12 PATROL and study every chance I get. But since the Judge may throw out the list you should probably do the same and hit the books with me too.
That said, since you will have the unfair advantage to study 8+hours with your feet up in that sweet unit of yours, you have nothing to worry about, if you get lucky again. On that note, has anyone done the breakdown of all the passers, where they work? Yet another point proven... only the few have a smooth sailing for promotion on this job. Forget actual knowledge and hard work.

waaaaaaaaaa, I didnt pass and want the list tossed. Waaaah I didn't allocate my time properly to enhance my studying, waaaaaahhhhh. Now, the judge is a fair one. Enjoy the forthcoming decision.....
I'm on the street you tool ... not that I have to explain but I'm prob wasting my time cause you obvious lack any wit nor intellect based on your child like responses ... Wait I take that back its not fair to the children of the world to put you on the same intellectual level with them .. However plenty of people with sweet gigs with collar brass I have no idea what means failed this test too .. im sorry if that is difficult to understand, patrol failed , special ops failed 1pp people failed so stop your sisters of the poor argument ... And don't bother studying your obvious thick in the head ... I don't bother with this rising star junk but it is rather annoying that it's now run with atrocious opinions like yours now

LOL^^^ they're really gonna need maximum strength now that the city has officially filed to have their case tossed. They'll need maximum strength highly absorbent kleenex too once the judge does toss it.

Yes, and this.

I agree with you machine! Someone should do a breakdown of all the passers. We need to know where they work. We also need to know who has kids and who doesn't, because its not fair that I have children and some of the people at the TOP of the list don't. They should also make a list of who has spouses that work, because that would mean that people had less time to study than those who had spouses that didn't work. Please also add anyone who had ailing family members that needed attention and taking care of because that also took time away from people studying not the mention the mental strain. Did anyone have deaths in the family while studying? Please compile a list of who had deaths because I guarantee you anyone that didn't have anyone die while they were studying also scored better.
By the way when someone makes up a list of where everyone works also add the amount of hours one studied while at work. I know some people on patrol that studied two hours a day while some people in units studied three hours a day and vice versa. What else can we add. We need to make this as fair as possible.
I believe we should also find out who did and didn't have smart parents ... Simply not fair if both your parents were smart and you were giving good cognitive genetics ... People who's parents are cousins should be promoted by the PC without a requirement for a competvie exam

What a crybaby. I have absolutely no dog in this fight but you sound like a pathetic 7 year old who just lost the pinewood derby and is screaming and crying about how it's not fair. Maybe single mothers, people with sick parents, people with working spouses, and people who work on patrol should all file a lawsuit and have a big cry fest where they all scream about how unfair everything is. I hear the air quality wasn't as good in room 1 as it was in room 2, it's NOT FAIR! Maybe I should file a lawsuit against my neighbor because he has a bigger house than me and it's just NOT FAIR! You and the other 9 crybabies are an utter, filthy disgrace.
Remember when people would post here about how no one wanted the list to get thrown out, how they only wanted to re-examine the TVB process or some other such nonsense? Well, machine has shown his true colors, and I suspect his attitude is far from unique.
Machine, you are an entitled, petulant, selfish, whiny little man-child. You would gleefully burn your fellow Sergeants who passed fair and square at the drop of a hat because things didn't go your way. You are a paragon of the "me" generation. You embody the worst this job has to offer, and I genuinely pity anyone who has to call you their boss. You are unfit to lead.

exactly, just yesterday the PC said he'd fix the exam process and not promote cheaters. But it's not good enough, they filed another injunction yesterday, yet again trying to hold up the list and prob any future exams. The 9 don't care about anyone but themselves. Their true colors have been exposed.

Guess sarcasm doesn't translate well over the internet, she was definitely joking though. I know because she told me.
The point she was trying to make is there are a million uncontrollable and controllable forces that factor into how much and how efficiently someone can study. I'm in a detail and 80%+ of my studying was done away from work. Machine needs to let it go already about the house mouse vs. patrol study time. If you can't find time to study a little at the desk you're running your desk wrong, even in a busy command.

Agreed, everything requested in the original complaint was granted other than the test being invalidated. If the nine don't want to toss the list, why are they filing for another injunction?
I know what she was doing. I got the sarcasm. I was joking too about single mothers etc etc filing a lawsuit. You can't file a lawsuit against life. These 9 crybabies will sure try though.

HOW SLIMEY CAN THE SLIMEY 9 GET?.....THEY ARE LITERALLY TRYING TO SCREW SGTS OVER...THE JEALOUSLY IS DISGUSTING.....
NEVER FORGET THE SLIMEY 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont think that their intention was to screw over every sergeant. They mainly targeted the cheaters and the unfair advantage they had. Everyone who passed the test and didnt cheat will get promoted and very soon.

The lawsuit very clearly requested the courts to invalidate the whole list. Not just the make up takers (which couldn't have happened anyway), but toss the whole list and start new. That obviously would have screwed over every Sgt.

Read the court complaint. Their clear intention is to get made Lt (even tho they failed), or have the list tossed. In fact they are still trying to hold up the list. Fact is no one made them fail, they need to accept it and move on with their lives and careers.

That's definitely 100% wrong as CappedOut and Devil Dog have already stated. I passed on the original date, I did not cheat, and this is absolutely screwing me over along with many others who passed on April 18, 2015. If they cared about other cops they wouldn't be filing for an injunction on original passers.
Though I will concede and admit they are not "literally" trying to screw sergeants. I would say they are figuratively screwing me, if it were literally that would be a different issue entirely.
