This reminds me of how I felt  after learning I had failed the 2011 Lieutenant's exam.  I did well on the 2007 Sergeant's exam (Top 30).  I studied extremely hard for the 2011 Lieutenant's exam and fully expected to do well on this exam also.  When I sat for the 2011 exam, I had the shock of my life.  The exam deviated from the norm and I was not able to adapt.  I didn't finish the exam and ended up with a 65.  I was extremely disappointed and humbled.  I had to wait four years to take another Lieutenant's exam.  During those four years, I watched people I was promoted to Sergeant with getting promoted to Lieutenant and then Captain.  As soon as the 2015 Lieutenant's exam was announced, I began studying like a madman.  I studied virtually everyday until exam day and went to both the Key and Elite.  I did extremely well on the 2015 Lieutenant's exam given the circumstances and yes I took the exam on April 18.  I'm not here to pat myself on the back.  My motivation is my family.  The silver lining here is that there will be another Lieutenant's exam soon.  I know how inconvenient  it is to study all over again.  I've been there.  Don't let them beat you down.  Don't let the politics and a poorly written exam define your career.  Learn from it and crush the next exam.  Expect the unexpected and when they say it's going to be a straight-forward exam, take it with a grain of salt. Forget about what everyone else is doing (Sabbath, etc.) and study your ass off (again) and get the white shirt.  Congrats to all that passed legitimately.  And to everyone else who put the time in and didn't make it, keep your head up.  Thats my rah-rah speech for the day.

Wow, the best post I've read all day. All this complaining isn't going to change anyone's career path. The Job always wins. Control what you can and stop worrying about everybody else.

You nailed it. People need to read this post and then read it again. Get the venting out of your system and then refocus on what really matters and that's getting your promotion. I studied my butt off for the 2011 LT exam and failed. I felt awful and went through everything most of your guys are going through now. I didn't let it get me down anymore and soon as I heard about a possibility of a 2014/2015 LT exam I hit the books. I made this one but to everyone that failed I know what your going through and thats why i'm spending the time writing this. Take your anger out on the next exam and ace it. Email Mike and get the Digital Guide. Competition on the next one will be fierce. Be prepared for the worst and you will have a fighting chance when it comes down to it.

Yeah, the job sucks and will **** with you every chance it gets, but don't dog on people who failed though. I passed this one, but you aren't any better than someone who got a 63 unless you got a 90 as an original date test taker. There are a lot of people who failed who absolutely deserved to pass.

I agree that those who failed and want the rank need to get over it and fight it, but I don't fault them. This test was total BS and anyone who got above a 65 (even 60 maybe) deserved to pass. They got a raw deal just like we all did.

I thank you...and my 67 thanks you.  Congratulations on passing and congratulations to all the people who studied their asses off and made the cut.  You all deserve it.  Most of my friends that studied hard scored mid to high 60's.  Hopefully the job changes the whole testing process:  the material tested, the test writing, the picking of the test writers, the TVB, and makeup exam schedule.  Congratulations again.
