Next time i get guide from Yano and risingstar packages. I need nothing else. Key and Elite had idiotic questions both on the app, lms and packages.

ahouse i can understand youre mad, but you are venting your anger at the wrong ppl. The classes are a guide, ultimately we make the decision what to study and what not to. IM sorry, im prob going to get killed for this, but even counting the ops orders and admin guide, you still had enough to pass this test. If i fail, then so be it, i put all my effort in and i read every pg procedure. Ofcourse what i failed to do was focus on exactly the right ones, but i might have just read them enough to focus on test day. The trick with any test is to not know every answer, but to be able to eliminate those ones youre not sure about to get to the right choice. Any good test taker prob had enough to pass that test. Now its about getting lucky with the research/throw outs. There will be ppl passing this test, deserve to pass/deserve to fail, if you put your all in nothing else more you can have done.

I agree with Sgt2Be

It was a rough test for sure; but you cannot cry unfair. People equate going to class as "studying". No it's not. It's a learning tool to reinforce what you read the 6 weeks leading into your class. So many cops think that by attending class it shows dedication. Bull****.

Many go there and eat, bull**** with friends, horse around and pay attention to the parts where a teacher says "highlight this"

Tye schools all have great strengths and weaknesses. I would recommend joining a class, picking up the packet on the day you would normally go to class...and then go home and study.

Neither the Key or Elite covered much that was on the test.  This is now the 2nd Lts test in a row that they've been caught napping. Elite/Key are outdated and yesterdays news. From this point on,  anyone who pays close to $1000 for an old school test prep course is a fool.

how do you say this??? the pg procedures that were tested should have been known except for maybe acouple of real detailed ones. Gave some 5 star ones on there. Was even told to study something specific that was never tested before but was told to watch out for and it was there on test day!! The point of class is to clarify points, not to teach you the procedures! i memorized all the procedures before class, went to class, went bakc home and studied them again! Then towards the end you concrete the small details in.

I did not read the patrol guide, only the Key and Elite packets.  Right now I have a 74 according to Gamblor's key.  Not saying the test was easy, but most of the patrol guide questions from the test were covered in the packets.

People are getting bent out of shape because it wasn't covered in class.  Although this is somewhat true, the class is 3 hours per week worth of studying, so they only cover certain points.  You should be studying another 20+ hours per week, which is the time to review everything, not just what they say is most important.

Bottom line, pass or fail on this test, I will get what I deserve and what I worked for.  Don't blame the class, they are just a guide.

Yep, i did just thatand crushed the Sgts exam with the key and breaking my ass studying. Your are missing the big point, which is key/elite failed to have OOs included in their packets.  They should have seen it coming.  Whether the job is intentionally trying to make the courses look foolish or not,  it's happened 2 tests in a row.  Not having the foresight to include OOs is inexcusable.  end of story

Guys, you saying this as if we dont know how to study especially for Lt test. All my friends minus 2 co-workers studied their asses off. Especially the ones who failed by 2-3 points 2011 test. I personally was hitting procedures steady every day 3-5 hrs plus at work i would review old procedures. starting in january it was 6-7 hrs and for the past 5-6 weeks 10+. i memorized this useless guide which i wont use after i retire nor while i am in. useless knowledge. i did hundreds of questions, some Lbs, lt duties in admin guide. But it wasnt enough. three trimesters-85/90/91. risingstar on average i would drop 15 questions depending on package
And as of now 6fvckin4.

OOs were not covered at all and I wasted a lot of time memorizing things that the Key said would def be on the exam.  I studied like crazy with the PG and Ksa and might be okay, but who knows.

exactly bro.  Many from the top of past Sgt's list are in the same boat.  Key/Elite are outdated.  Nothing personal, just my opinion.  I thank the key for getting me a very high score a few years ago,  but never again will i waste my money.

If OO's were never heavily tested in the past, how were they supposed to know they would be important now?

I don't know or care how they failed to do their job.  The tests are moving in a different direction than these courses. It's a undeniable fact now.

I never blamed the courses for anything. All I am saying is that they are clearly outdated.  The Key itself said that something was "personal".  Which means the job is intentionally trying to out fox them.  To spend about $1000 on a course that the job wants to make look foolish would be idiotic at this point.

I am not sure the courses are outdated. Could you not get something fro Yano's elite guide or the good study guides of the key? I will admit the questions are not as difficult as questions we have seen on recent Lt and cap exams, but you know what? Rising star questions are! So I think the courses can still be worthwhile, but don't blame them for failing, you really should study on your own for many hours per day on average for several months. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and you decide how you want to study and works for you. I personally like reading the source material, that is the patrol guide more than study guides bc it gives me the confidence to know I didn't miss anything.

As for Operations Orders, they pulled this nonsense on the 2013 Captain exam and upheld the questions, but there were nowhere near as many from what I am hearing. Perhaps they are research questions in there to mess with you? No one will know until you go to the protest.

No one has blamed the courses for failing. The Key itself has admitted to being made to look foolish ( in so many words).  I also never once mentioned the Rising star.  Many of us here have studied for many many hours over 7 months.  The Key went so far to say that this test would be fair and nothing like the last,  they told us to be confident in that. They also went so far as to predict certain procedures that would be "definitely" be on the test.  For the most part they were wrong.

I agree that it's no one but my one fault for not being completely prepared when it comes to the PG questions. They were confusing and some were from obscure procedures. There were also a few main procedure questions. There is no way the classes could have known what was coming with this test. I studied hard memorized the "important" and Lt duty procedures. Read the patrol guide twice and I am going to fail. The problem is the in basket. The only way to prepare for an in basket is to attend a class and I didn't even come close to being prepared with that in basket.

My issue is with yanosiks email it was very down playish...maybe instead of a down week or two here and there they should of thought outside the box and instead did an overview of the past few years OOs....yes everything is on the intranet but most people paid close if not more than a thousand dollars to have some of the tedius gathering part done for us....so yes shame on me for that....I am at a 67%...for anyone in the 70s stop acting like you are there BC the school prepared you, you are there BC you guessed correctly on a few more questions....this job has enough tools like the captain who thinks he's smarter than anyone else...

I did KSA, Key, elite in baskets. imo there was no way to prepare for that in basket. It was a death trap.

@Devil Dog. You need to look through your PG and the Key packets and you will realize that the majority of PG procedures tested were covered. Including Operations Orders, not many but a few were. Trust me, I  did it. The problem was the trickery used in these questions. As for Misfid, I recall him saying quite a few things at class that appeared on the test, the roll call situation, etc. Don't want to give any insight to the scammers.

Can u read?? I said OOs. Only a cpl were covered and thise were not tested. It's no secret that key students were not happy with the packets this time around. They also gave out bad info. They claimed to have "a little Birdy" who was feeding them info. When in reality, someone was clowning them. By the way, the key is as unhappy with the OOs as anyone here. It makes them look bad. Which is why they sent out a message claiming afoul. I'm done with this. They were caught off guard for a 2 nd test in a row. End of story

Seriously, anyone who took the 2011 test can tell you the schools are not privy to what is going to be on these tests. They can stress what they think is important, and what kind of stuff they historically have tested on, but in the end, studying what the schools tell you, based on the past 2 lt exams, is a recipe for disaster. There is no substitute for studying on your own and keeping in mind they can and will go anywhere in the book. Or anywhere in Operations Orders, apparently. Dont know if I made it or not, but if not, ultimately its my own fault.

I don't blame the classes.  I blame the job.  From the ridiculous in-basket, to the hair-spitting answer choices to the testing of 'un-traditional' source material,  this test was a joke!

I always said the PG was the bible.  The schools can help you with prioritizing but the source of the 100 questions was the PG, not some school's notes.  I could live with learning that one miserable book.  However, I'm not investing the time it would take to also virtually memorize verbatim the OOs, LBBs, Admin Guide, Complaint Guide, Elements of Style and How Not to be a Dick just to get promoted on this job.  It just isn't worth it to me.  I don't want to work for anyone who thinks it is worth either because, chances are, you're a tool bag who neither has a life nor an ounce of cop in your body.

Right now I'm south of the line.  Whether I pass or fail this thing, unless I find a crystal ball or a school that has one, I am not putting myself through this again.
