Rant of a promotional school

Note to all who took the Lieutenants test this past Saturday.

They did it again, another disrespectful test one that ignores the personal sacrifice and professional effort made by their most motivated members. All the while wondering why morale is low. You are the members who care the most, the ones who make the effort to improve themselves and thereby improve the Department. To allow a test to be administered fraught with the personal motivations of one or two ranking members of the department is highly unprofessional.

This has happened time and again but not every time. What makes it so unprofessional is that it depends on who is involved in the process! Thats just unacceptable. We placed an article in The Chief after the last sergeants test in 2013 (please read; https://m.facebook.com/NYPDtheKey/posts/244295339070360) which spoke to a Lieutenants test that had 20 out of 100 questions either changed or thrown out and compared that to a subsequent Captains test that had NO changes tough but fair. To have exams vary in their integrity so wildly was the subject of the article. Didnt do much good, obviously. As of today, we are making an effort to convey these concerns directly to the top of the Department no, were not holding our breath either.

What can be done? Submit your protest application TODAY.

  • The rear of your answer key has detailed instructions. The most important point on there is that it must be POSTMARKED no later than 1 WEEK following the date of the test do it NOW.
  • Since you have to bring copies of the material you wish to submit on the day of the protest, if anyone needs a copy of the ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDE updated to the cutoff date, January 18, let us know, we can email that to you.
