Showed them the ropes? About Compstat? Trafficstat? BoroStat? The Captain that's showing them the ropes will be assigned to 1pp?

Yes. Show them the ropes- on what the job that they are about to get promoted to entails. On becoming an XO. A two week prep course on how to be a captain or at least, what one may expect.
I am not privy as to who the mentoring Captains are, or where they are assigned. I was told that the soon-to -be Capts are to report to 1PP on Monday morning, presumably to obtain their assignments for the next two weeks and find out who they are shadowing before their promotion to Captain.

Lieutenants waiting to get promoted in the next class (in Jan) were notified yesterday to report to 1PP on Monday, 1/14, to participate in a new mentoring program. For two weeks prior to promotion, lieutenants will be assigned to a Captain who will "show them the ropes" in an effort to give some actual hands on training. This is the first class in which they are implementing this program.
Personally, I think it's a really good idea IF: there are Captains who are willing to act as "Field Training Commanders" and it's not forced on people. Maybe these soon-to-be Capts will actually learn something that they can use out there! I also think it may be a good idea to do this with Sgts and Lts too. Thoughts?
I agree great idea for future Cpts but not for Future Sgts, even less for future LTs... Job difference between a Lt and a Sgt not much.... Big difference from PO to Sgt but that last week at bmoc is field training is good enough if done properly...
The pre-BMOC Phase 1 where you had to shadow a desk officer and patrol supervisor was pretty good, except nobody did it (especially cops not on patrol) and nobody checked to make sure you did it. If properly implemented, it would help with the shock that a new sergeant deals with when they first get to a command.
Agree, this type of program would be beneficial for new supervisory officers in the rank of Sergeant. I'm still intrigued on what kind of learning a new Lt will possibly get from a Captain. Unless the purpose of this program is to entice future Lt's to take the Captain exam lol.
I disagree.... A cpt job is totally different from a LT... An example, a LT in training for those two weeks, will possibly do the following: Be out with the captain when he/she has the duty, possibly be the detail commander, help prepare for compstat, work that absorb schedule... Meet. & greet with the community.... Get intel on what the CO expects from the XO, intel on what the daily duties of the captain is etc....
The different books too maintain for the different stats, how too study for a compstat etc...
See what cmd decision the cpt has too make... I personally love this idea

I think you misunderstood my first post. These are not new Lts, they are Lts who are about to be promoted to Captain in 2 weeks time.
And if you were referring to my suggestion for doing the mentoring for each supervisory level, I did not mean that a Capt would mentor a new Lt, rather a Lt would mentor a Sgt about to get promoted to Lt. Whatever rank one is about to get promoted to, a member of that rank would be the mentor. Hope that clears things up on what I was trying to say.
Thanks! Isn't it ironic how a clearly well stated source of information of yours can so easily get misinterpreted? I'm glad you were able to clarify it.
