First day at new command and already taken advantage of.

I was placed on the desk with a fellow Sgt(17years on/10 in rank) to learn the ropes this morning and by 9am he basically disappeared and left me alone to fend for myself.

What a bnch of one way A-holes at my new command.

It's sad that this is becoming more of a Norm but this is what Kelly created a department where Everyman is for himself. The morale is at the lowest I have ever seen. But that more for THEE RANT.

I'm sure it's overwhelming but keep your head up. Becareful of your first impressions of people not everyone is one way. Im sure there are men and women who are willing to help out. Its a extremely stressful environment the goings on of the stationhouse but it will eventually come to you just like after making your first arrest as a cop. You'll get the hang of it.  Good luck

You'll have the chance to repay him once he's asking you for a relief. Don't worry.

My thoughts exactly, the management of the job makes it hard on us as it is, thats why we should be helping each other out. I always disliked the sayings of "when I was a rookie I got screwed" and its not their problem. The one ways never do anything for anyone but always bitch and moan when they need something.

I'm convinced this job is 20 yrs of experiencing each rank (annoyance, disgruntledness), taking each test in assumption that it will be different, then realizing as you move up it doesn't change at any level. Then you retire. That's also why you truly shouldn't forget the people who do take time out to aid and help you when needed.

When I first got on my first sgt told me he only studied so hard so that he "wouldn't have to listen to 8000 more people" That's what everyone should see moving up in rank as.

How many less people am I going to have to listen to???

Hey, better to be **** on by the guy doing the desk with you than to be the PS for a cop shot job when you have a month in rank.

As a Sgt you are automatically out ranking what 26-28,000 people? That being said its a bit tougher to scam. But hey what's the old saying, better to supervise idiots then be supervised by one. At least on a middle management level.

26,000-28,000? Where the hell are they? Not on Patrol that's for sure.

Charges- They're hiding in the puzzle palace or in each precinct placing pins on a map averaging 40 hrs a month cash OT without ever having to answer a radio run, write a summons, fill out a PAR or throw their dusty cuffs on a 6'5" 250 lb perp. Next citywide detail check out the collar brass, units and hiding places I've never heard of. I believe theres only 8,000 citywide street cops (Patrol, Special Ops, OCCB and so on). Literally 75% of PO umos push paper. It's a joke.
