I say 2 years. Rumor has it only 65 passed the recent Captain exam (about a years worth of promotion maybe less) and there are currently 60+ on the currently list. Assuming the same rate of promotion that's enough candidates for the next 2 years.

This is what they make without hustling for the OT each month; not bad at all.

Captains are not authorized to make cash overtime.

Considering that only 325 took the exam and 98 passed is a 30% passing rate, which isn't to shabby. That's a higher rate than Sgt, and Lieut.

I was thinking a little later than 2 years especially with this list still dragging and then the new list is not even out yet and it will have over 100 names on it. The rank is not really that short on people to have constant promotions but we'll see.

I always hear that Captains retire with DI/Inspector pensions. But wtf does that mean? What are the extra perks staying a captain that long?

A 5 year Captain gets a DI pension and a 10 year Captain gets an Inspectors pension.  Base salary for a DI is $154,300 and Inspector $162,472.  Don't know if there are any added perks besides salary.
