Again with this , "they're trying to make the list bigger" nonsense. It doesn't work like that!!! Stop believing the crap you hear in the locker room. No one tells the guys on the review panel how many questions to throw out, what questions to throw out, or how big to try and make the list. They are completely independent from the job. The guys in that room could toss out 20, or they could toss out 3. Completely up to them. And the panel is over, for the last time....it's ****ing over!
Stigg, I've heard that 15 questions is the max that can be thrownout or double answered and anything more than that they have to throw out the test. Rumor or fact?
Considering past tests have proved otherwise, it seems the 15 rule is incorrect. However, I posted that "rumor" as it was told to my by dcas. My mistake in not realizing that employees of Dcas are as stupid as some of these people on this job and don't know a damn thing!!! F*ck dcas, f*ck the panel, f*ck this test! I'm sick of this s*it!!!

I could be wrong here, but how can a panel consisting of NYPD LT's be independent from the job?
In the sense that when you're on the panel you're not instructed what to throw out or how many to throw out. The decisions rest exclusively with the panel. There is no person that comes in and says, "fellas, we need to add 300 names to this list, throw out 5 more questions." Just doesn't work that way.
I'm not disagreeing with you, just playing devil's advocate, but aren't these LT's hand picked? Not saying that there is a blatant " Hey Tommy, we need 13 throw outs, 3 doubles, etc", but couldn't there be a " Hey Tommy, the scores for that test were pretty out of whack, a 240 list is really going to screw us, hopefully you can figure out why the scores were down (wink wink), hey, btw, you interested in a spot that just opened in omap? I'll talk to you more about it after you finish your review." Something along those lines? I know probably not, but Big Brother is always watching and has there hands in everything. Guys that get those test writing, panel review spots, get them for a reason. Its not some out of the loop Joe Schmo LT from BXTF that gets picked for these things, theres reasons why they are where they are. Im not sayin, Im just sayin

You think the job is way smarter than it actually is.
Nothin to do with the job being smart, rather being connected. Nepotism runs rampant on this job, always has always will, I have no problem with that either, but people get put in primo spots for reasons beyond their ability. Just saying those aren't random, drawn from a hat LTs on that panel. Like I said, I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin...
I am not trying to spread rumors or conspiracy theories, but the last Sgt's list they did promote quickly right before the 2011 Lt's list and let everyone apply at the last minute and didn't enforce a timeframe cutoff for the application to be eligible to take the exam, I have to wonder if there were some connected wiz kids on that Sgt's exam that were given the opportunity?
Also if anyone remembers the December 2003 list, they dipped into scores in the 60's after the throwouts/doubles, fitness, seniority, and even residency points and there was a Chief Esposito that had a daughter waiting to get made that did get promoted with a final score in the 60's. BTW, not the current COD Espo, but another chief Esposito that I think retired a 1 star chief, boro adjutant of PBMS.
Now I am not saying with any certainty that they dipped into the 60's bc a chief's kid was there, but it is possible. Also she was not the only person who benefited from the low standards set by that exam so I am not singling her out.
My point? It is possible there are people in high places to curve things to go a certain way for borderline applicants. I mean there have been Sabbath observers that have taken some tests a full 8 days later? I wouldn't put anything past this often unfair job.
All I know is I passed with no help on this unfair joke of a test...
its not considered a "curve" if there are unfair questions. A curve would give everyone the same amount of additional points to raise raw scores. They toss questions that have been found to be unfair. Lucky you, on the unfair questions, you guessed better then some.
Ummm... where in my post was I being a female dog? Just saying, strange things seem to happen for some odd reason on every promotional exam. I have seen people get promoted in the 60's after 4 doubles/throwouts, 2.5 points for residency, military, fitness were added, to make the list you needed a raw score of a 58 in 2003. I have seen multiple exams where the Sabbath test was given over a week later, which creates unfair competitive advantage to "the Chosen One's". The last Capt test- 15 throwouts/doubles. Or before I was OTJ when the Academy wrote the test, the notorious two answer keys based on race and allegations of cheating in instructors giving out answers before the test.
So now on this 2011 Lt test, anything is possible...
