We are as disappointed in this test as you. We prepared you to the best of our ability and we have been preparing students for 12 years. I took the test and cant believe that they would ask you 29-30 reading comprehension, grammar, judgment, and supervisory questions. This is a major deviation to any NYPD promotional exam EVER given.
My advice:
MAIL in your protest session TODAY! Then relax and wait for the tentative DCAS answer key. Once DCAS releases the answer key, PROTEST every question you get wrong (especially the reading comprehension, grammar, judgment, and supervisory questions.) PROTEST PROTEST - PROTEST
If they provided you with a reference book on the Notice of Exam, you could have been properly prepared for this exam BUT they did NOT!
Lets see how they defend these questions.
I would make DCAS regretputting questions on the exam that they did not provide you with proper guidance.

You wouldn't have to take d test again, it would force DCAS to have many throwouts or double answers like the 2010 Captain exam hopefully giving you enough points to get on the list.
Does anyone remember getting the first letter from DCAS when u filed? I was told that they specified in that letter to expect judgement, grammer, and math questions. I threw my letter out...Can anyone else attest to this?
To all of those this may concern. It will do us no good to complain amongst each other. You have to step outside of the box and complain to the source, the P.C., your union AND ESPECIALLY DCAS. Flood their emails and mail box and then notify the media. This will be a bigger embarrassment than the capt's exam.

Question,.... how do the throwouts work? Im under the impression that you have to pass the exam (at least a 70%) before any of the throwouts can count towards one's overall score right? Can someone shed some light please. Thanks.
Even if there are a lot of throwouts and everyone picks up 10-15 questions, all that means is more people make the list, but its a crapshoot on who gets promoted and who doesn't. The people that did really study may still lose out which is really messed up.

I think the people that studied hardcore are really worried, but don't really have to be. The fact is, there were at least 50 Patrol Guide questions on the exam. Odds are, these studiers are pretty smart/focused to begin with, and therefore will also be able to handle the other questions as well. The people who did not study that much may have a shot since there weren't as many PG questions, but they still had to get correct answers on the 50 that were given. All in all, I bet that the hardcore studiers will all pass, but with all scores on the low side. I doubt we'll be seeing many (if any) 100%. I understand the fear and anxiety, but I bet the majority of the 6+ month studiers will do just fine.
I dunno, those PG questions were tricky and there weren't enough "give me's". There were many where I thought the fact pattern was too vague and could have had more than one answer. A few had you interpreting their example rather than sticking to an indisputable fact pattern. Hardcore students could still struggle with the 50+ PG questions on this exam. I would say less than 20 were easy.
Your guess is as good as mine. I was not one of the hardcore studiers so many of the PG questions were tricky to me. lol But, the other questions were more up my alley. I just hope a lawsuit doesn't hold the list up.
I agree. I studied for 7 months 600+ hours and got a 91 on the 2006 key practice exam. Ill be shocked if i got a 70% on that test! How pathetic is that?!

Forget about money! I have spent minimum 8 hours a day since
March. I have taken. Both key and fast track class. I memorized this patrol guide.
This is what I got on the day of exam.

I would think that yes, everyone taking the exam would have that question marked correct.
smartcookie you are one of many who didnt have time to finish the exam and had to leave answers blank because we did not have a proper heads up to organize our time on this exam because it was not the exam it was supposed to be. We have to step up and get this thing thrown out.

Sorry, FNM. I did finish the exam. Though I did have it out with our proctor who refused to write the time on the board (like they always have in the past) and we didn't have a clock in the room. I was pissed that I didn't think to bring my watch (I'm an asss) but I assumed there would be a clock on the wall. I just motored through as fast as I could so I wouldn't get caught not finishing. I am fortunate that reading comp/grammar/math are my strong suits. I will be putting in to protest regardless though. Even if I did well on the "experimental" part of the exam, I still did not get a great grade. Nov. 29th cannot come fast enough.

Past few Yrs the only time you get during DCAS exam is from your watch. Thats it. If they have a clock in the classroom they will disconnect it. And yes, they are not allowed to tell you the time left or what time it is
I am new to the forum. I took the test. I am not upset since i didnt waste time studying, but I feel terrible for those of you who put their lives on hold for the last 6 months, memorizing the PG. I agree with protesting many of the questions, but i dont agree with protesting the grammar ones. It is well known that DCAS asks grammar questions, and they give advanced warning that they will do so. Too many grammar questions? Perhaps. Math too? I am more concerned about questions that suggested correct answers to be "stealing from the job", or "not reporting OEEO violations". Some questions seemed to have answers that would be a matter of opinion. How can that be incorrect? Anyway, good luck to all. I doubt that 25 questions will be thrown out. I also doubt that the test will be nullified.

That's what the DCAS supervisor said when I was making a ruckus in my room. He said they didn't allow the times on the board in over 3 years. I got promoted off of the 2006 Sgts Exam.
I want to thank the writers of this exam. They reinforced how much the City and the Department sucks. (caps for city or department?, who fu*king cares). By the way, does anyone realize that there are many things in the PG make no sense in today's world, it is 2011 not 1975, perishables and today's newspapers? Give me a break.
