RISING STAR ! The ultimate source to ace your NYPD Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain Exam Visit www.RisingStarPromotion.com to order our questions specifically designed for maximum retention of the Patrol Guide--plus full-length exams!
We're not expecting a FINEST for lieutenant for another week or two, but in all likelihood it will be 2-3 weeks after the Sergeant exam.
With that said, the Sergeant exam would be a great practice run for the Lieutenant exam. For $60 you get to do a "dry run". Anyone can sign-up to take the exam; you won't get a grade, but you do get to keep the record of your answers. I took the sgt. test 6 months before my capt. exam and I took the sgt/lt/capt exam as a rookie cop. Best study prep $$ can buy.
I'm going to play devil's advocate here. Taking the 11 SGT test just before the LT test may create false memories of what you think is right. Remember, you can't bring home the test and will have to rely on your memory and the memory of others to recall questions and their answers. These test questions are very intricate with many tricks and loop holes. It's possible that you learn wrong information by merely taking the test. It would be difficult to verify each of your choices and review wrong answers. Just something to keep in mind. I personally would rather study for 4-6 hours and do some practice exams and in-baskets rather than take an exam that I could never truly review.

Keep in mind these are absolutely nothing but rumors that were flying around todays' prep class, but I'm just wondering if anyone can confirm it/heard something similar... LT Test pushed back until Feb 2012 ???
definitely not 85. knew some1 that had 85 or 86 and his list # was 250's. ur old sgt probably got skipped for whatever reason. but thx for the input. definitely have to score 80 or above to have a chance of making it.
I believe there is still debate on what they are going to do about this current list. obviosly they can't promote the whole thing before the expiration. But what do they, do they kill the whole list and establish a new one? Do they continue to hire passed the expiration then kill it? If they do that I think guys that died would have a valid argument in that why kill a list if you already passed the "expiration", why not keep going once you cross that line to promote the whole thing? If they do decide to continue to promote from this list, we might be in for a long wait. Just my thinking, we'll see.
You are probably right, I just think something is not right due to the fact that there was no mention of a Sgt test a month or two ago and Lt was slotted in for Oct 15, then out of nowhere they announce a Sgt exam for that date and since then there has been no mention of an Lt exam. If there was nothing up why wont they announce a date?
Montclair makes a great point, that's probably exactly what happened. When the schools first announced the LTs test they said Oct 15. Now that's the official date of the sgts test, they rain made us. "A guy tells you if you pay him, he can make it rain. If and when it rains, he takes credit. If and when it doesn't, he finds a reason to make you pay him more" -Levy. This test isn't going to be til February/March and well prob have to pay extra to keep going to class after October, I'm not wasting my summer studying for no reason!!!
To nycop80, there was a court decree against the city that was either initiated or settled back in 1986. It ended up that the city is now under obligation to announce the exam within 4 to 6 months of the exam date. They almost always have been announcing exams 6 months to the day so everyone came under the impression that that was the rule.
I don't know if u'r taking any classes, but I go to the Key. If you get a chance u can ask either of the Shea brothers, they should know what I'm talking about....or some boss of the same caliber and job knowledge anyhow. Don't want anyone to think I'm posting crap out of my imagination.
That aside, to all, keep studying, it will happen, just as Brat and nycop80 says...good luck!

So far, the only announcement of an exam came from the schools!
Dcas has Oct 29th reserved. Finest should come down this week. Don't let people who have a vested interest in this test getting pushed back tell you otherwise
Here's a good question. For the guys that go in for the October class, promotions will obviously be Friday the 28th. Will they be eligible to take the test on the 29th since its the next day? One day in rank right?
fodx, that should be an easy answer, you know with bmoc for SGT you arent actually promoted until bmoc finishes and you go on stage shake the pc's hands and get your new shield. SO if they enter bmoc OCT 28th, The answer IS NO , they are not eligible. IF there was a promotion ceremony on the 28th and the decided to give the new sgt's the shields early just so they can take the LT exam, than that would work, i guess it is possible.
nycop80, I didnt say if they GO IN to bmoc on the 28th. I said if the promotion ceremony is the 28th (going on stage, shake the pc's hand, get the shield, bla bla bla), can they take the LT test the next day? Im assuming yes.
