I don't really think they will have the test on oct...it's just not enought time to announce the test then give it...the alleged date is already 8 months away...just not enough time...I believe that it's just when they will announce it..just a gut feeling..nothing concrete.
I'm not totally sure but don't they usually announce 6 months prior to the exam which means they still have time to announce before October. I'm hoping for an October announcement because I wanna make sure that I get into bmoc in time. My list # is the 480s so I have a ways to go. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck all!
A lot of times they push the exam back a month or two, which is why some may think they need to give more notice. But there's no guarantee that will happen.
not totally true... 480 - 220= 240... so if your 240 names out at 60ppl per class ( 60 is a lowball #) then your 4 classes out, not counting passovers. 4 classes would be aprox 8 months if they go ever other month which would put you in an oct bmoc. It does seem like a long shot, but dont count yourself out quite yet...
If they do put in a MArch class then at 480ish you should be good for the LT test. Im very low 500's and Im keeping hope alive.
Just to be clear. Do you need a day in rank to TAKE the exam or a day in rank to get PROMOTED (meaning you can take it you just cant actually get promoted to LT until you have a day in rank)

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE PROMOTED TO FILE. ANYONE CAN FILE FOR ANY TEST. YOU NEED TO HAVE A DAY IN RANK FOR THE LT TEST TO COUNT AND YOUR NAME TO APPEAR ON THE LIST.
ELIGIBILITY TO TAKE EXAMINATION: This examination is open to each employee of the New York City Police Department who on the date of the multiple-choice test: (1) holds a permanent (not provisional) competitive appointment in or appears on a Preferred List (see Note, below) for the title of Sergeant; and (2) is not otherwise ineligible. (Note: A "Preferred List" is a civil service list which is only for certain former permanent incumbents of the eligible title who have rehiring rights.) If you do not know if you are eligible, check with your agencys personnel office. You may be given the test before we verify your eligibility. You are responsible for determining whether or not you meet the eligibility requirements for this examination prior to submitting your application. If you are marked "Not Eligible," your application fee will not be refunded and you will not receive a score
Correct me if I am wrong, but don't they promote in Bmoc at the end? So theoretically if you go to Bmoc in Oct, you would have to hope the test is at the very end of the month.
Meaning, realistically, a september BMOC would really be the last class eligible to get promoted to LT.
(1) holds a permanent (not provisional) competitive appointment in or appears on a Preferred List (see Note, below) for the title of Sergeant; and (2) is not otherwise ineligible.
Doesn't this mean that everyone who's on the sergeant's list can take the exam?
MIKe is right if there is an OCT class they would need to promote everyone before the test to be eligible. AL3181 All i did to find this info was search for the 2006 LT posting and copied and paste that specific section. So you would need to see the note for the posting to understand what a preferred list is.
You must be promoted to sergeant in order to take the exam. It's two years in rank to get promoted I think
Just to clear up the second part.. 3yrs in rank before promotion..
ELIGIBILITY TO BE PROMOTED: To be eligible for promotion, you must have served permanently in the rank of Sergeant in any one or combination of the New York City Police, Transit Police or Housing Authority Police Departments for at least two years and have successfully completed the probationary period for Sergeant. Additionally, you must be permanently employed as a Sergeant or your name must appear on a Preferred List for Sergeant at the time of promotion.

-- If I had to guess what a preferred list was - a group of people demoted thru no fault of their own and due to get promoted again?
