I got notified for this Wednesday for the one day orientation at the police Academy. Of course there is a pending snow storm. Anyone else get notified?
No, nohook. It is just additional training to the whole promotional process. They notify people well in advance of actual promotion. Phase 1 is at the academy. According to the 49, it is just scenarios, a speech, role play, yada yada. 2008 listers had some kind of homework assignment given to them. Phase II is going to Compstat with your C.O., and getting on the desk at your command as practice. Has nothing to do with who will be in the next class.
Seems like they cannot get their **** together in regards to this training, some get it some do not, I am within 67 names including all passovers and hoping to be in the next class and I was notified for next weeks phase one there is no way I will make it to compstat before jan 31st. There is also a guy in the 300's attending phase one next week and they are not going into the 300's for the next class. The whole process seems terribly disorganized.

It seems there is no rhyme or reason to these notifications. A friend of mine in the 430's got this notification while other's in lower numbers did not. I know for sure he wont be in the next class, yet he got the letter.
So far at this training they said that Monday is going to have 67-75 promoted. The Lieutenant said that promotions will most likely be more consistent this year.
Ehhh, we took a self assessment questionnaire to determine how you are when dealing with conflict resolution. We spoke about good qualities of leader, as well as the common missteps that sergeants make. We got a booklet to work on for when we get called to BMOC. The day won't blow you away, but we were treated well, and everyone seemed happy to be there. A lot of breaks and an hour and a half for meal. The room was packed to capacity. If you were late no one got on you. One guy had on jeans and sneakers. I don't think he was reprimanded, but they want you in a shirt and tie.
hey housingdude, a few people in the class today thought I was you bc in the beginning of the class the guy that interviewed me said I worked in a few different psa's LMAO
I think the reason why some people didn't get notifications was because this 1 day orientation is essentially not mandatory for promotion. If I was a CO of a command and I was super short on manpower, I wouldn't exactly go out of my way to let one of my people go for this if it wasn't mandatory. Even the 49 says it is "Highly Recommended", not mandatory.
Housing Dude is right about everything. I will add that what they want you do do is if you don't get into BMOC on monday, they are going to want you to shadow the Desk Officer for 3 tours, ride along with the patrol supervisor for 3 tours, go to a compstat and traffic stat meeting and write about it in the homework they give you. The LT and the Sgts were cool, and it is a day out of command. I can't ask for too much more.
I was in bmoc last year in october. I was never notified for phase one. I never went and there were a few others in my group that were not notified and never went. It was never mentioned by the instructors.
