I received a letter via cetified mail a week or so ago stating the "education requirement" for promotion to sergeant, which is 64 credits...i must add that i currently do not have the required # of said credits but only need to forward my academy transcript to the educational tracking unit (at the small fee of around $250 all said and done) to rectify the prob..Call ETU and they will fax u the form u need or just call and they can explain it more in depth than me... (212-477-7122) M-F 0800-1800.....if u recieved that letter i would imagine ur in the same boat as me
You need to have the academy transcript accredited by a college which will accept it and have it put on a credit bank. I pooled all my credits together using excelsior college. took a while. Used NCC + Military transcript + academy and ended up with over 120 credits. I dont believe the ETU will take just the academy transcript without it being accredited. They are accredited classes but just have to be recognized by whatever college that will take them.
Yes all done took care of it i was only short 4 credits so i transfer the academy credits thru excelsior college. now i have more than enough. now just sit and wait.
They sent me the letter...I have the credits, but for some reason the dept doesn't seem to have my transcripts so I have to go to my school and have them sent over.
The funny part is that they didn't have my dd214 from the military. I had to provide them with copies over the years.
So what did they hire me off of? Military or college? They don't seem to know themselves.
I am in no rush to give them the transcripts since it will be forever before I am close to getting promoted.
Unless this is just a stalling technique , you have to admit this is a good sign that they are sending out these letters, to the 2009 list. Maybe we are getting closer to the end of the tunnel.
well i am towards the very ended of the list low 700 and i got the same letter just like mike said pleanty of time toill then so no hurry it also comes to my attention that labor day (west indy day ) is coming up will they have a sgt bmoc go in and have that many less cops doubt it so i am guessing next bmoc will be on the 8th but i am doubting that i believe it will be like this till the begining of 2011 and then the list will begin to move with about 60 names every other month with a sgt test schduled by summer time
Drunk247...If there isnt a sept class it wouldnt have anything to do with the labor day parade. Do you really think promoting 150 names off of a sgts list would put even the smallest dent in the NYPD's available man-power? Besides, anyone on that list has at least some seniority and prob wouldnt have to work it unless they wanted the ot...
i'M ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST AND THEY CONFIRMED MY CREDITS ALREADY. I THINK IS A MATTER OF GETTING THINGS TOGETHER SO THEY CAN BEGIN SCHEDULING THE TWO DAY CLASSES THEY GIVE BEFORE BMOC.
I'm at the top of the list and I haven't been notified for that two day course. Everyone I know on the '08 list got notified for that about 6 months before their time came. Don't know if that means anything or not. Could just have been timing.
