THE 2009 SGT'S TEST WAS A JOKE. 781 NAMES WITH OVER 40 IN THE 90 PLUS RANGE. THE JOB IS DESPERATE FOR SGTS. IF THE ECONOMY WAS BETTER YOU WOULD ALL GET MADE WITHIN A YEAR
i am in the top 70 on the 09 list. not to 'toot my own horn or anything' but the test was straight forward. as far as easy...im not too sure. there were tricks in those questions that could easily throw you off. also i think they oversimplified a few questions because the key, fastrack, and rising star always tells you to break a question down. so im thinking DCAS tried to get funny and make a lot of cops phsyc themselves out. 781 names is high for a sgt exam. i believe the 07 test only had in the high 200's before throwouts. i took the 07 re write in the key class for practice and i barley passed. however i do think that guys realized that this test might be the last one for a little bit so they buckled down and nailed it. supposedly 6,000 cops took this test. so with 781 passing thats about 1 out of 9 passing.
JustWonderin did you past the test? Because you sound like you're biter about the fact that so many people passed? I passed the test but I would not call it easy by any means if it was so easy why didn't more people pass? Why didn't you?
My brother the easisest exam ever given was the one that the top 1500 cops on the list got made and a whole bunch of them scored in the high fifties and sixties. four guys in my command are sgts and they ranged between 58 and 68.
I am not ashamed to say that I have failed many past sgts exams. I studied hard and found techniques that have finally worked for me. I did decently and have a respectable list number. In my personal experience, I didn't find this test harder or easier than the other tests. The only difference I found was that there were less curve balls and it was relatively straight forward. Other than that, I found the questions to be of pretty much the same difficulty as previous exams. As far as having so many people pass, I spoke to many old timers (20+ years on the job) and they told me that there were well over a 1000 that passed and the list would last 4 years, with people dying on them. Honestly, any test where only around 10% passed is not easy.
JustWonderin- If you found it easy, then I can honestly say without sarcasm that I do envy you. In high school and college, I was a mediocre student on a really good day. I guess how tough or easy this exam was is based on work ethic, intelligence, and maybe a tiny bit of luck. Congratulations to you for doing well and congratulations to everyone here that did well.
Oh for God's sake. The reason more people passed and higher passing scores is because of the new Sgt's contract. Now theres more benefit to getting promoted so people were more motivated. Period.
if the job was so desparate for sgt.'s they would not have passed the 70% rule and give a test every year. the would have stuck with the old way of a test every three years with a cut off at whatever # of sgt.'s they thought they would need. then you would have bosses that got 50's bossing you around. i'll take the guy with the 90. at least i know he put some work into it.
The 70% rule made it harder to get promoted the reason the rule was instituted was because the test prior to the rule had people with 58's getting promoted.
maybe the reason a few more passed is that there were a few more in ths test that had taken a sgt test at least once before, and therefore were more prepared, or like a few above stated, more motivated w the contract, or have really had enough of either seeing dumb cops get promoted, or dumb ass bosses....plain and simple whatever the reason, it worked and im sure there will be tests in the future with higher percentages of people passing and there will be tests w smaller percentages passing.......so who gives a F ?? CONGRATS!! RANGERS SUCK!!
to 'tkny1004' i believe 8,000 took the 08 test and 671 passed. 6,000 took the 09 test and 781 passed. and to ringer i completely agree. i personally know of 4 guys in my precinct that failed the 08 test. once the whole economy thing happened then swore to pass the 09 cause of all the rumors about this being the last test for a while. and they all passed. however, even though the number of people passing is still relatively low compared to the number of cops that took the exam, more people did well. anything above an 85 on the 08 test would have put you in the top 50. this isnt the case with the 09. not to take anything away from the 08 exam, i think people are just tired of failing. also i think the young guys on this job (including me) realize that its better to get made and get made quickly. bosses job now...and yea rangers suck! devils baby
