i heard a rumor on this site...that the 08 list of 640 or so mite get cut...also heard on this site..a rumor that the 09 list may come out around sept...also on this site that a 2010 sgt list also may come out... I HATE TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS..AND I HOPE THEY DONT CUT THESE LIST , I HAVE FRIENDS ON THEM AND, IM ON ONE OF THEM ALSO...IT MAKES SENSE THO, THAT THESE MAY BE TRUE!!!! 1ST, IF , FOR SAY, 4000 PEOPLE TOOK BOTH TEST..AND 640 PASSED 08, N 400 OR SO PASSED 09, THATS 5% MORE PASSED THE 08 TEST...IF THE MAYOR WANTS TO BE SLICK AND SAY THAT WE ARE SAVIN $$ BY SLASHING THAT LAST 5%, AND ONLY HIRING THE TOP 400 OR SO,, AND ARE SAVIN $$ BY HAVIN THE OTHERS, WHO ARE NOT YET MADE OR NOT ENOUGH TIME YET, AND BOUNCE TO THE 09 TEST...IT WOULD MAKE MORE COMPETIVE TEST AND SGTS.....CUZ THE CITY CANT JUST STOP THIS HIRING FREEZE, CUZ 1 OR 5000 RECRUITS IN THE ACADEMY , ALOT OF COMMANDS STILL NEED SGTS, WHETHER CUZ THEY LEFT OR WHAT HAVE YOU...THE PATROL GUIDE THAT CHANGES EVERYDAY, HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT A COP W 3 YEARS ON ,2 YEARS AND MANY INTERM ORDERS LATER, STILL KNOWS THE GUIDE???... EVERYONE KNOWS IF YOU DONT STUDY THE INTERM ORDERS YOUR NOT GOING TO HAVE A CHANCE IN PASSING THIS DIFFICULT TEST...IF THEY MADE A TEST EVERY YEAR AND TGHE LIST ONLY LATED A YEAR, YOU WOULD HAVE BETTER COPS, CUZ THEYRE ALWAYS STUDYING, AND YOU WOULD HAVE SGTS WHO HAVE ALOT OF CONFIDENCE JUST SECONDS AFTER TAKING THE TEST...TRUST ME IM NOT SAYING I AGREE..IM JUST SAYING IF THESE RUMORS SOMEHOW BECOME TRUE..I UNDERSTAND WHY...AND IF TJHIS DOES SOMEHOW HAPPEN..THEN DONT BE UPSET, CUZ IF YOU PASSED ONCE, YOU WILL DO IT AGAIN, LETS JUST HOPE AND WISH, THAT WE DONT NEED TO......
yeah i know, its just funny bout all those rumors...its easier 4 me to write in caps, i hate typing, hope my 124 rm is awesome, or my 49z are going to suck.....lol
I know people at the bottom of the 08 list that have been brought in for that 2 day training so i can not see them cutting them after that. Hey i end up in the upper 80's on the 09 test so cutting them would work for me but i just dont see it.
BLOCKHD.....DID THEY END UP WITH LESS THAN A 75???...I PUT THIS UP TO SEE IF OTHERS KNEW THESE OTHER RUMORS, AND ANYTHING THAT WOULD JUSTIFY THEM, OR PUT THEM TO REST.........HEY I HOPE NOT ALSO.....BUT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE...THERE HAVE BEEN LISTS THAT WERE CUT, AND ALSO LISTS THAT THE PASSIN SCORE WAS A 55...MAYBE CAT, OR SUM1 ELSE WOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE THERE TWO CENTS...
for starters why would the list be cut? there are still 400 people at least left on the 08test.
i can't see there being a 2010 sgts test. if there was a jan test the finest would have come down already. maybe later in the year. they give at least 6+months for the date of the test. we are in july which means no jan or feb test.
As far as list#7508 goes the dept has not even hired half of the list yet which is still a small list. With that said why even speak on nonsense rumors of the list being cut.

I DIDNT SAY IT WAS TRUE, OR HAPPENING NOW.....in my post i xplained why i could believe it in the FUTURE......FURTHER MORE...the list NOW is about 315, which is a 78 OR LESS...THATS OVER 300 PPLE WITH A CLOSE SCORE...THE RUMOR CAME ON THIS SITE WHERE THEY HEARD , "they" wanted to get the best of the best....maybe go another 100 or so then pop out another test, n then release the 09 list.....the time frame of these rumors make sense...if they were to have another sgt test in MID TO LATE FEB...U MAY NOT HEAR IT UNTIL AUGUST TO SEPT....JUST WAIT TILL THEN...IN IF THEY DO.....ALOT OF PEOPLE WILL SIGN UP FOR THAT TEST!!!!....IM NOT AGREEING OR WANTING THIS IDEA..BUT I COULD SEE IT HAPPENING...BUT I DOUBT IT...CAN WE GET SUM1 WHO IS AT THE MAIN CASTLE , TO GIVE AN OPINION....
its funny how someone from the 09 list can think it is even possible for the 08 list to be cut. You get a little gitty thinking they would cut people who studied hard for a test so you can get called quicker. Very selfish. Plus your test was so easy a 70 on the 08 test is equal to a 95 on the 09. So whats the need. Forget it you will not be call for 2 years . Get use to sitting on DOA's and EDP's selfish F**KS.
here is the story for the people who have no clue.
before 2005 there was no passing grade if you took the test your name was on the list unless your score was really bad.
the dept would promote as per needs of the dept. meaning if 2000 people made the list and the dept needed 1900 sgts all 1900 were made no matter what score. people in my command where made with high 50s and low 60s.
kelly wanted the best of the best and therefore put a pass fail grade 70.
in 06 600+ people passed the test. in 07 330 people passed the test. in 08 671 people passed the test.
the 07 list was made later the same year. in aug of 08 the list was done meaning they called everyone. so the dept ran two list together. they started to hire off of the 08 list from aug until dec.
the recession hits they put a class in jan which was held until feb when they cleared the 07 list. some people where promoted but did not do bmoc. so they put a class in april and now in june.
before this year the dept would put in a class every other month with 70-80 people. the last 3 class had half that. 40 now 50.
since 05 the academy classes have been really small. less cops less sgts
the dept is now sitting on a list 7508 with at least 400 people left.
people are saying the 09 test 700 people passed. that means 1100 sgts.
why would they give out a test when they have 1100 sgts?
if they only promote 40-50 sgts every other month it is going to be awhile before the 09 list comes out.
maybe april of next year...

The lists will not be cut. They used to be when I came on the job 15 years ago, but not now. There also used to be tests in Nov-Dec, not only Jan-Feb. That can be a possibility for 2010. Anyway, there is not much we can do about the timing of the exam or of the promotions. I am praying that they throw out enough questions and have enough doubles for me to pass when the list comes out.
There is no 2010 sgt exam, at least not early in Jan or Feb. They need a 6 month 'heads up' to give exams by law. They might have one in the summer or fall for all we know.
The 2008 list is up to 320 or whatever. Thats 350 names to go. At the current pace of a bmoc every other month the list will be done early next year to next summer.
The 2009 list should be made public early next year and will have 500-700 names on it.
As we all see and read, there are many possibilities that may occur. As we all know there is a recession , and we have a BUSINESSMAN for a mayor!!! For those who know criminal justice prior to the job and never worked for a real business worldwide company, with more than 50,000 employees, a smart business man can say alot and save alot of money, and start promoting sgts, if he had the pull or the power!!!! AGAIN, IM JUST HEARING A RUMOR, and thinking of possibilities why or how they could happen. 1st.. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, however, remember when the story hit the papers that the nypd was going to fire cops??? did anyone get fired??? No!!! Technically they did by not hiring a class of recruits WHICH THE NYPD IS KNOWN TO HIRE SOO MANY RECRUITS AT ONE TIME, WHAT OTHER DEPT HIRES MORE THAN A 1,000 A YEAR????? Could the Mayor say im going to save $$$$$$$$$$$, and not hire , lets say the bottom of the 08 sgts list, n move on to the 09 list??? AND DO IT EVERY LIST, and at the same time , announce a sgts test in 2010, and at 60$ a pop make some $$$??? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN BUT WHO KNOWS.......

List is good for 4 years. Only way the lists gets cut is if the department does not promote the remaining number of eligible sgts. in the next three years which is about 350-400 names. Safe to say that 350-400 sgt slots will be available in the next 3 years. So stop with the silly rumors about cutting the 08 list. They all will be made.

My understanding the 08 list was established with a few names left on 07, like 50 or so. I don't expect the 09 list to be established until the 08 is down to around that number.
