I wanted to share this with those who did not pass this exam. I doubt it is true but think that some might find it interesting.
I am constantly being told at 1PP that there will be another test at the beginning of next year. This comes from people of different ranks who are working in offices that could possibly give them access to such information. I've heard it at least a dozen times from different sources, some of which I trust.
I was also told a few times that a little over 400 people passed this exam and that there will be 1-2 questions thrown out or double answers for another list of about 600.
There is still 300+ or so names left on this list and maybe another 700 on the 2009 list which isnt out yet. Why would the dept give another test with 500+ more eligibles? That means the dept would be sitting on 1500+ names in a hiring slowdown.
That makes no sense to me.
The only way i can see a test being in Jan/Feb is if the dept does a 180 the last half of this year and puts in decent size bmoc classes every month.
listen bklyn, out of hundreds of numbers that u just mentioned how many are really eligible for promotion? in my cmd out of 6 people who passed 2009 test, 2 arent eligible for 1.5 years and the other 2 for good 2 years...this is the reason why since 2007 sgt tests come out every year religiously, and the other reason of course the passing 70 grade...
The 2007 list only had 300 names on it. The demand for sgts > supply of eligibles.
Thats not the case right with the 2008 and most likely 2009 exam.
On January 2010 every single person on the 2008 list will be eligible to be promoted, unless youre jammed up, limited, etc. Thats only 6 or so months away.
And no ones knows how many people are on the 2009 exam or when the list will come out. If the list comes out the summer of 2010, following the current rate of slow promotions for 2008 exam, then that means that 6 MONTHS later every single person on the 2009 exam will be eligible to be promoted.
Looking at the current track of things this isnt too far fetched...
You have to use different approach 2007 and 2008 had their own obstacles when it came to promotion 2007- few potential sgt as a whole group 2008-economic crisis. And despite the crisis, good or bad, over 300 names had been promoted and we probably will see another 100-150 names march off to bmoc sometime before the end of summer. As far as 09 list concerned its over 400 names...and half of them not eligible...therefore, fall of this year our list might come out with possible 1 or 2 classes before the winter. just like last year with 08 list
They are up to list 314 out of 671 on the 2008 exam. Thats 357 names NOT including the people skipped over for time in the first 314 names. Thats definitely 400+ names remaining to be promoted.
The list was established in September and only 300 people went in up to June so far. You really think 400 more names will be finished by winter and they will start with a couple of 2009 exam classes by winter too?
What juice are you drinking? ...because i want a sip of it. =P
There are about 400 people who need to be promoted from past tests accordig to bklynbcn. The 2009 list will supposedly have about 600 people according my friends' info. That's a total of about 1000 people.
How long will it take to promote 1000 people? Maybe two years? The notice for an exam is given 8 months in advance, the exam happens and a list is established in 8 months or longer. That's a total of at least 16 months. The timing for a January 10 exam and list seems to coincide with the time that it will take to promote the remaining 1000 people from the 2008 and 2009 exams.
It could be that my information is true, but I am not sure. There could be an exam in 2010 but in the fall or winter. I don't see it happening in January, but everyone is telling me otherwise. I am personally praying for January.
(sorry I kept writing 2009 instead of 2010)

Good point FODX.. Last year the test was announced in July.. So if we dont hear any news on a 2010 test by august, theres a good chance there will be none.
No test in 2010 means a very long 2009 list and a good chance a lot of ppl wont get promoted (including myself) UGH!!!!!!!
i may be new to this whole test result thing but, why is it that everyone thinks the test must be given in january?? last year it was in febuary. why cant they make it later.. so even if they dont announce a 2010 test in august, maybe they will just have a later test date??? is it written rule that it must be given by febuary??? this is a fact, there will be another test, before you retire, and when its announced you can start studying, until then enjoy the summer and get off the computer and go to the beach.!!!!!
