Test Taking Tips

1. The inbasket can get confusing and u will need to focuse w/o being exhausted from answering pg questions so do the inbasket first..trust me

2. As soon as u sit down write all the lists your remember on the scrap paper they give you.

3. take a bathroom break after every 20 to 25 questions

4. know the math solutions. that is a easy point or two b/c its definitly going to be on the test.

5. usually your first answer is the right one.... usually so try to avoid changing answer at the last second

6. use common sense to eliminate two bad answers right off the bat. then u have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

7. stay calm... the thought of 6 months of studying coming down to 1 day can really mess up your thought process

8. if u dont know the answer skip it and come back to it later. i did that for 3 questions and got the answers from questions that i read later on on the test.

9. dont study the day before the test and definitly dont be one the those guys parked in your car cramming right b4 u go in to take the test.

10. try not to answer the question with a common sense answer if u dont know the answer cuz as we all know common sense does not apply with the pg. your better off just picking C.

11. for everyone who truely did study u should know the pg by now. the only thing u should be focusing on is taking as many tests and answering as many questions as possible.

You guys can take this advice with a grain of salt but these are just a few things that worked for me and i did pretty damn good on the test. so good luck

#12    Make sure you go to bed early the nite before the exam...dont stay up late studying, seeing how it is th enite before it really wont make a difference.  and also do not go out and party the nite before....

go to bed early and get a full 8 hours sleep.  It will help you get thru the exam.  You wont get tired during the actual test  :)

Bring snacks and drinks. I drank Monsters..kept me going. Take bathroom breaks every 25 questions and when you get stressed on a question. You might feel like your getting up to much but do it anyway. It keeps you fresh.

I agree about the snack and drink.

If you get stuck on a question skip it and go back to it.  Something else in the test might jog your memory.

Don't change your answer unless you're really confident about it.

I prefer to do the In-Basket last, that way you don't confuse anything from the in-basket with a regular question on the test. Either way you do it, take a couple minutes break between the two sections - bathroom, take a drink, clear your head...

Bring some paper with you for the car after the test, then you can scribble notes down about the test before you forget them. also, on the answer sheet you get to bring home with you, bring it home with your answers and you can get away with writing some notes on it, or at least marking answers differently depending on your confidence with the questions. This will come in handy if you need to appeal questions or find where you made your mistakes.

I would do the inbasket first because it takes alot of brain power to do it and after the test your brains going to be shot.  I would also do it first because if you start running out of time its easier to scribble a single answer on the scantron rather than having to flip through the inbasket.  plus the inbasket will probobly be pretty easy so why lose 10 or so gimme questions because you were tired, id rather drop those 10 ridiculous questions i probobly would have gotten wrong anyway questions.

where i went wrong last year was after the inbasket i started writing acronyms and other stuff down on the scrap paper and took up about an hour/hour and a half (i had alot) and only used maybe 2.  so i was pressed for time with the questions i broke down to 2 possible answers.  most of the people left with enough time to go,  but there were about 5 or so of us still in the room during the last half hour.  time management is key and it depends upon the individual.  some say take breaks every 20-30 mins, where as i took one after i finished my acronyms and possibly halfway through the questions but dont remember exactly.  either way, Good Luck
oh and i was kidding about the "c" comment acouple days ago

- Bring food and drinks like vitamin water, bananas, etc. IMPORTANT.

- Dont study the day before or the morning of the test. Relax the day before the test and play video games, watch tv, etc. Do whatever you enjoy in your free time. Not studying for one day will not be the reason you fail.

- Go to sleep early the night before.

- Dont walk out of the test and tell your buddies in the pct 'that test was easy.' Youre not fooling anyone and you might be in for a rude awakening.

I studied up until I walked up to the school door and threw away papers at door.I also spent 10 hours in the library the day before the test.I strongly disagree with BROOKLYN BACON on that one.One extra question you get right could be 100 names...

I did the same. Studied all day before, went to bed at 9pm, woke up at 5am, got to the school and studied for another 1hr in my car. Was in the first bmoc class. So do what you feel is necessary. I would never have been able to play video games and watch tv the last day knowing that other people were studying their asses off. I would also go with doing the inbasket last. If it is going to be anything like last years there is nothing to worry about. They literally gave you 15 points on the arm.

And Bacon, not studying one day could absolutely be the reason you fail. You never know what questions you will pick up that last day. I grabbed that child window fall report question by something I had read the day before. Not that 1 question mattered in my case but it definetly could in someone else's.

While i can see what you guys are saying, if someone studied properly and sufficiently over 6-8 months or whatever then one day off will not kill you before the test.

I found relaxing my mind and taking it easy the day before the test worked wonders for me.

Granted, given someone who studied for 8 months, 1 day would not make a difference.

I studied 6 months for Sgt and 7 months for Lt and I studied up until I walked up to the door and it does make a difference.
