hey all, my name is John and i just joined this forum and i have a quick question that i was wondering if anyone could help me with. I am posting it just so i can get your opions your opinon would be great, thanks.
here is the question:
1. You are a police officer who is on patrol in a residential neighborhood 3:00 A.M. in the morning walking on foot patrol when a man comes up to you and tells you that he just witnessed a robbery about a block away from where you are. The man then starts to explain what happened, what is the best course of actionf or you to take FIRST?
(A) run down the block to where the robbery was reported to have happened.
(B) listen to the man.
(C) radio for back up to the location and explain to dispatch the situation.
(D) start to question the man.
(E) none of the above are correct.
Ok after reading this I decided that the best thing to do would be D. This is my reasoning. I would want to radio for back up before running to the scene of the crime. I would want to get a little bit more information before i radio for back up. SO that leaves me with B. or C. now B. sound really good but then when i thought about it i figured C. was better because what is if the man starts telling me unimportant information and just goes on and on. I would want to question him and get the basic facts because this is a serious matter and every second counts. I would start to question him on did you see anyone get shot or hurt. What did the robber look like where did he go. After getting theses basic questions answered i would then radio for back up. I would then run down to where the robbery was reported to have happened. If anyone could reply to what they think. Thanks all!
The right answer would depend on the type of question and the reference the test-writer want you to draw from. For example, is this a Legal Question? Does the question want you to answer as per the Legal Bulletins? It could be a patrol question and somewhere in the patrol guide there should be a procedure that addresses what to do in the scenario. Since the stem of the question doesn't state neither, it could be a common-sense type question, in which case you answer the question based on common sense standards. Based on common sense:
Choice A-- would you run-down the block without fully knowing what happened? You don't even have a description.
Choice C-- call for backup and tell them what?
Choice D--plausible, but why would you want to interupt the man's free-narrative.
You can't look into a question. Go by what it says. If he's telling you about a robbery in the question then he's telling you about a robbery. There could be a million what ifs. If the question said he's telling you about a robbery then asked for directions to mcdonalds would be different. B- listen to the man
seems to me, the person who posed that question is not an MOS, uhmmm is he looking for help on a CCRB or IAB incident? does not matter, its not a test question
