How are you studying?- Let's motivate ourselves for Feb 09' test

I am taking the Key classes and we are 1/2 way through. I was studying 2 hrs a day, now I am slacking and I want to get motivated to get this done. What is everyone else doing to stay motivated? Am I studying too little? Should I go longer? How about breaks for studying? what is the norm?

To all the sgt's that passed, help us out...tell us what you did!

The key is very good, however, at a certain point of studying after you have read and read, you need to start answering questions- and questions that are of the format of the actually exam. In my opinion the two best places to find these questions are 1)  From the department intranet go to finest health- there is a username and password you need, from there, there is a class tab or something and they have all kinds of multiple choice questions that are exam like questions. It is also free. You can get to it to from home if you go to nypd main website and click finest health, but again you need the username and password.

2)  The next place is from where this forum comes from. risingstarpromotion.com has excellent exam type questions.  It is not free though.

I believe with using those 2 along with going to the key and reading the guide you should be able to pass. I know many people who have studied for hours everyday and still failed. They could even recite many pg sections. They didn't get to the spot or no one told them that reading the guide over and over is not enough. You need to see the exam type questions, so you train your mind for exam day to know what to expect.

I e-mailed Rising Star a while ago and was told that they will start selling the questions around November 10th.

Thank you both nycop and unborn...I am gonna start doing some questions! I do have the "Looseleaf Law" Quiz book but I think the whole thing is horrible...

I am assuming that the rising star just sells the questions w/o the lesson? That is what I want...do you know how much?

What about the 2hrs a day thing? How long do/did you study?

keep the info coming!

I agree, the Looseleaf quizzer is nothing like the test and not worth it IMO.

Rising Star sells the questions alone, no idea of the cost.

I suggest you go to http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/home/home.shtml

on the right side click finest health. I will private message you the username and password if you want. I suggest you download all questions and answers. They are up to 7 sets of questions already. They give very detailed answers. Risingstarpromotion i believe is $350.  It is well worth the cost. You want to answer as many questions as you can, but what i suggest is to also do this. It is not only enough to know the right answer. Maybe on test day you will be lucky and it will be almost the same exact question but probably not. You want to know what makes the other choices wrong. As you go along and answer the questions, even if you know the answer and get it correct, look at the other choices and figure out what makes them wrong. This will truly help you out in the long run. It is tedious to do, but well worth it.

nycop80,

I am on a child care leave of absence and do not have access to the intranet to download the questions. Is it possible to access the intranet through my home computer? I went to the website you mentioned and it requires a password. Could you please email me the info needed to log in?

If it's not possible for me to download the questions, is there someone out there that can email me the files?

Thank you.
