BEING ON 2 LISTS

I apologize in advance for this stupid question but unfortunately I have many idiots in my command who all agree on it.....I am currently on the 7508 list.  Is it true that if I take and pass the upcoming exam in February that I will forfeit my eligibility to be promoted from exam 7508 ??  Now that the job started running 2 active lists at once ( 07 exam and 08 exam )  Are u allowed to be on 2 lists at once ??  I was under the impression u were.  If anyone knows the answer, I appreciate it.

If youre on the 2008 list then why would you take the 2009 exam?

If youre on the 2008 list then you will get promoted. Its as simple as that.

And let me guess. The people saying you will 'forfeit' your list number are people who got a 40 - 50 on the exam? :P

I am taking the 2009 exam and I am on the 2008 list, in the 200s.  Two very good reasons:
(1) If you happen to, G**forbid, get jammed up for something, you can be on a second list in case your issue is not resolved before the expiration of the first list that you may be on.
(2) It keeps you on your toes and a little better informed of the Patrol Guide for the Lieutenant's Exam.
P.S. - Its another saturday off that you will get back.

You'll be made way before the test in Feb. I agree that you should stay fresh with the patrol guide.weirdface.gif

Taking the exam twice is the dumbest thing in the world. Unless it was the Lt. exam and your list # is above 800's. If you're that worried about getting jammed up, leave the job.

And the next Lt exam won't be until 2011-2012, so please enough of the bull about "keeping yourself on your toes."

Shaky, real shaky.

Taking the exam twice is the dumbest thing in the world.Apparently you never met anyone who got jammed up and their status was questionable for months and years.  Or you never met anyone who died on a list.  $65 for a little peace of mind, not that high of a price to pay.

hey NYPD74:
Its not being shaky, its being smart.   You are probably the guy that says all these negative, unmotivational things to others to get them thinking. Then you do the opposite to better yourself.... Very sneaky pal. Sounds like you are 2nd Avenue in Manhattan....ONE WAY.   Good luck on your future endeavors.  As for anyone reading this....DO NOT pay mind to what this FOLLOWER says anymore in these discussion groups, he WILL lead down the wrong path.

I can definately tell you there will be a lieutenants exam in 2014.  Come on guys think for a second, the current lt's list was established fall 2007, the list expires 4 years after it has been established, lets do the math.  No (s)hit there will be a test in 2010, but to ask someone the exact date is the silliest thing i've heard.  Exam dates get changed constantly and you want to know about one that is going to take place two years from now, all i can say is wow.

The only way you can get jammed up is if someone makes a false allegation against you. Either by another UMOS, an EDP significant other or perp.

So far I've seen that with 4 people  that have been modified. 3 of which was by a significant other, the other by another UMOS. Perps generally do make a lot of allegations. However, I'm yet to see anyone get modified unless the UMOS did something they are not suppose to do or. ( i.e excessive force)

Everything else you have total control over. Unless you're a hairbag on patrol and are constantly scamming the system, there's no reason to take the exam twice.

Bottom line, everyone's statements shows their true character. If you're worried about getting jammed up, then you'll spend your entire NYPD career worrying about your actions and everyone else's too. Everyone has the right to better themselves. Either from a promotion or to a detail that most suits them. If you passed an exam, you passed! What you should be worrying about is how you will be a good supervisor where everyone respects and enjoys working with.

I have no secret agenda, I'm a straight shooter. If you don't like my opinion then just ignore my posts. Plain and simple.
