Which course gives more bang for the buck..?? People who passed this last one what courses did you take? What was your study patterns? Who teaches the best in basket the academy, key, fasttrack?? Are study groups helpful? What do you guys suggest for memory excersizes? any info will be much appreciated
fast track worked well for me i scored in the 80's on last exam but you really have to read the patrol guide and fast track will constantly remind you of that
i didn't go 2 classes. patrol guide, patrol guide, patrol guide. academy questions are as close 2 da real eal tha ur going 2 get. everyone else has a song and a dance 2 try 2 trick u and i guess to have u think more. besides '07 test definitely and i think '08 also had the academy instructors write some questions on the exam.
I went to both classes. The fast track was much more aggresive then the key. I thought both school's did a good job and the acadamy's questions were very good. But it all comes down to reading the patrol guide EVERY DAY. Remember everyday you don't read you can't make up for it by trying to read double the next day, that doesn't work. Good Luck.
Definitely Rising Star and the Department Intranet Practice test helped me pass the 2008 exam. I took Fast track and key for previous exams....and they nothing but add to the confusion.

Most of my experience is from The Key. Material is well organized and important parts were in bold or marked in another way.
But prior the class, you should read PG first for that lesson. Yet the best what The Key instructors are masters of doing is making PG procedures sense and alive; those PG procedures that are hard to memorize. Say, I was really worried about CIMS stuff. Pretty confusing, but Inspector Shea broke it down so well that I never had to read that section from PG. And even better, after year of his lectures, I still remember his teachings and examples so that they still all makes sense.
Rising Star has the best questions, overall. Academy questions were many times really easy and there were no challenge. The few Fast Track questions I answered, I end up marking wrong because I found 'em bit too hard for me. I want to be challenged but Fast Track challenged me bit too much making me feel that I don't know anything.
Reading PG alone is boring and try. You need a good instructor who will make procedures "alive", give funny examples how to use 'em and when don't.
But what ever you decide, stick with that plan. Switching from one class to another during the middle of the game is not a smart move.
call me desperate but im doing both classes right now.. I did fasttrack last time and it didnt help. Now im doing it again and the key and i feel good. i like fasttrack because of the total guide. if the key gave you a total guide it would be great.
Rising Star, hands down! Their questions are the most exam like and each section usually contains 60-80 questions. The notes are also easy to read. Overall, they have the best teaching "philosophy." Copcards are also good for the price. Great for those who take the train.
The "FAST TRACK" is Definitely the way to go!!!!!!! Their Patrol Guide simplified the whole "DIGESTING" process of reading such a vaguely written book like the PG,...Thanks Mike, Al, Phil & Steve for ALL of your HARD WORK,......Arty Storch from the KSA Sgt. Course,HE'S ON POINT!!!!!! His questions were desingned to get you acustomed to the real EXAM!!!!!,...And he also "THOROUGHLY" explained, simplified and broke down each section accordingly,.....Not like "The Key" in where they just read the Guide to ya!!!!!!!! Lastly, the NYPD Police's Academy Free Sgt. Course that was offered through the Intranet, Internet & Live!!!!!!!!! THEY WERE ON POINT!!!!!! Although they didn't explain the answer like the other schools, their questions by FAR were more similas to the EXAM over the others.......Here's my list as to which school had the MOST similarity to the DCAS Sgt. Exam Questions: 1. NYPD PA Free Sgt.'s Course 2. KSA 3. Rising Star Promotion 4. The Key 5. The Fast Track

MANY WHAT DID I TELL U ABOUT THE DOUBLE SCREEN NAMES U LOSER!!LET ME GUESS ITS NOT U CUZ EVEYBODY ON THIS SITE LIKES FAST TRACK AND ALSO SAYS ON POINT RIGHT?! LOL
My opinion is the Key, but only if its Inspector Shea teaching the class. He is the best teacher by far. The best way to pass the test is to "READ THE PATROL GUIDE" and make sure you have all the updates. Cop Cards help. Also know your Acronyms.
