This question gets asked on every thread. Very simple....you can not lose out on your promotion based on lack of time on the job. PERIOD. If your list expires and a new list is generated prior to you reaching your five year anniversary, you will be promoted with a class from the new list when you hit five. It's that simple. It's actually a pretty nice feeling. You essentially have a good year where you're a lame duck as a cop just waiting for your fifth anniversary and a promotion, not a bad deal.

if u passed the 08 test there's no reason to take it over cuz u will get hired off of the 08 test first anyway. even if u score a 100% on the 09 test.

hey knice if u r trying to tell us that u passed the test...and r worried that u will be passed over strictly cuz of your lack of time I would tell u... do not take the 09 test. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THE 09 test. the job cant not promote u just for your lack of time. trust me!!if u study u will waste months of your life for no reason!anyone on this thread who understands this concept would agree with the advice I'm giving u.

Cat...i hear what ur sayin about dying on the list...Or them "killing the list" but that can only happen if they never get to your list number. For example if your # 600 and they cut the list at 550. I thought as long as they get to your name they have to promote you, even if you do not have 5 years on??

Cat...I know ur usually on the money with ur info but I gotta say ur wrong with this one. Old timers would not know the answer to that question because prior to the 2003 test there was no passing grade. There was a curve, meaning guys that got a 55 on the test would get promoted. So that was when guys would die on a list. Now that 70 is a passing grade, the only way to die on a list is if they kill it before they get to your list number..meaning if ur # 600 and they kill it at 550.

u r right. if they get to your list # u can't be cut off.I dont understand what's so hard to comprehend. and ppl on this site have to understand that yes some others here r giving out good info on when classes r coming out. but thats only cuz they have someone whispering in there ear good info.that doesnt mean that person knows everything there is to know about this job. all it means is they got a few dates from someone, thats it!!!!

Anyhow not to gang up anyone, but jaggedj makes a valid point, someone gets good info as to when classes are being put in, and that's great they are willing to share that info here, but it doesnt mean they know everything, they are being fed info, so others take every word in like its gospel because they are desperate to hear something. People are also allowed to have their own opinion, but what it comes down to are facts. For those who are concerned about the list terminating and a new one starting up should call DCAS, and ask whether you will get promoted when you hit your five with the new list. That is who you should be asking, not cops on some message board, I myself have heard that if the list you are on is killed and you were not made because a lack of time, you will be promoted with the next list once you have the time, then again i'm just a cop I maybe wrong.

I suggest everyone in this forum place close attention to exactly what cat has said in the past or the future. For the millionth time, CAT, is probably the most reliable person with info on this board. I see there are some new members, but, please do not doubt her. Time after time, she has come through with bullet proof info. Jaggedj needs to stop contradicting CAT and just learn to deal with the fact that she knows what she knows. People should love CAT because she is able to take away some of the pins and needles feeling of not knowing. Case in point jaggedj. Nycop80, you need to pull yourself out of cats ass. No one is doubting that HER SOURCE has given her good info, which she graciously passed onto us, what jaggedj is saying is that her info about a person not being promoted at all because the list was killed and that person was passed over due to lack of time maybe incorrect. What happens if one day cat is wrong nycop, will your life fall into shambles no, because guess what? People are wrong once in a while. Plus what do you care, wont you be in the next class, what do you think they are going to do, kill the list with about 68 people left. Try to think for yourself, not just blindly follow what other people say, not a very good characteristic for a supervisor to have, wouldnt you say? I waited patiently for a year and half for my time to come, and enjoyed my time as a cop, and took everything I heard with a grain of salt, because nothing is so until your name is on the finest message. Relax people, everyones time will come, this job is in desperate need of sgt's, and that is a fact everyone can agree with.

Do not be a hater. I have said before, that CAT might not be correct on everything due to the fact that things can change last minute. She has been right well over 10 times on dates, class sizes and other info. It has nothing to do with thinking for yourself , this has to do with common sense. I am just sorry for CAT that she has to put up with this nonsense. Maybe she just will not share any info to public forum anymore. I have no anger against jaggedj or mn50, i just wish people would appreciate CAT more than she has been in the recent past. It wouldnt be childish if people on this forum knew how to take constructive criticism and listen to others opinions, as opposed to crying and saying they are not going to post recycled info because they dont like what one person is saying to them. Plus how many times can you rehash the same rumor, or ask when your list is coming out, or the next bmoc. I'll tell you what the instructors said right now, they dont know when the next list is coming out, or when the next bmoc is, or how many bmocs there will be before the new list comes out.
