If you are a person that does not like overtime the court section is the place to go. If you go to BCB in Brooklyn you will get steady days off, no getting stuck at the end of your tour doing a 49, you are not assigned any cops. All members of the service down there get posts and everyone knows what they have to do. I worked in the Brooklyn court section for four years as a P.O and i had a good time. Don't believe the hype that all cops in the court section are rubber guns because they are not, I was full duty. Believe it or not CJB is a detail. There is more to BCB than central booking. The Brooklyn court Section covers both traffic courts, Family Court, LAPS, Appearance Control and the Sign In Desk. I would encourage anyone who has been on patrol for a number of years, especially if you were in a busy house to consider CJB. CJB is a two year commitment and it is a good place to study. On the last Lt.'s the majority of the sergeant's down there passed the test. Just something to think about, don't knock it til you try it!

I know that cops at BCS get a ton of ordered OT (hey, guess what, you're not going home!) Is this not true for Sergeants?
Also, what are the odds for a Sgt to NOT get assigned to the tombs but rather something cushy like LAPS or AAB? I'd rather be in the 75 than smelling stinky perp all night.
i know several sgts in bxcjb and not one has anything good to say. from what i'm told it's the last place you want to get sent to. also told when the 2 years are up count on 1 more year trying to get out. i'd take my chances studying at a pct.
To answer your question, no the Sergeants do not get ordered overtime in central booking ever. You do your shift and then you go home, only the cops and civilians get o.t.
Doesn't make a difference if you get 50 hrs OT. It still sucks. Imagine dealing with hundreds of savages and all the diseases and then going home and kissing your kids.
The question I have is how do they choose Sgt's from BMOC to go to CB? What is the selection criteria?
CJB of course has it's perks. I personally don't want it because I know as a cop, everytime I go there and leave and get home the first thing I do is take a hot shower and want to do my laundry to get the stench off. I don't buy it either when people say go there to study. When we all get made in 2008 we will still have about 3-4 years before they even think about putting another LT exam out. This means you will be doing more than your two years to maximize your studying because I don't know what good it'll do now to study hard for an exam in about 4 years unless you have one of those awesome memories. Plus the material will change by then and the Patrol Guide will probably have another 500 pages added. It will benefit, maybe, to transfer to CJB about 2 years or 1 year before an LT exam. Now if you want to stay there for 4 or more years and don't like OT then it's for you. Just my opinion. Like everything on this job you have your pros and cons.
