Quite a few guys/girls in my command are hitting it real hard. Seems like a lot more interest in the exam now after the last contract was negotiated. The top pay seems to have spawned some renewed interest in the rank (....plus, it's the only way to get to the best rank on this job....[Lt.]....shhhhhh!) J
Nah I think that was not a fair test man...I mean I have been studying and got that crappy ass score..it made me panic for a bit but Iam back on track lol..
in regard to session #8 exam from the academy.............i was written to be very hard. you never know if the actual exam is gonna be tricky like that. better to get the meticulous questions wrong before the exam. make sure to note the explanations for those questions/answers. if you got a 66 on session #8, thats actually very good, considering. its not a real test and it certainly wasnt THE test, so come off of the ledge and just use it as a tool.............you'll do fine.
ATTENTION TO ALL TAKING TEST , SESSION #8, FROM THE POLICE ACADEMY................TEST WAS HARD AND WAS MEANT TO BE HARD............TRUST ME ON THIS ONE...............USE IT AS A TOOL TO TWEAK YOUR STUDYING AND THEN IN 2 WEEKS YOU WILL BE READY FOR ANYTHING
Everyone that is taking this exam shoud be on vacation this week or next week. Don't be foolish take it as a vacation pick. When I took the test on January 21,2006 I took the week of the test off and it helped me alot. I actually studied up until I got on line to take the test. Don't go crazy with it. The areas that you know cold don't spend too much time on, attack the areas that you don't know cold. Also don't forget to pray! I know prayer changes things, and my list number was 86. Godspeed and Good Luck to everyone!
this may be a silly question but does anyone know who actually writes the test? does it come from the academy or is it some other entity like from dcas or something. i'm asking cuz if it is from the academy then are their materials an indication of what the test will be like?

The exams are written by 4 sergeants who did well on their sergeants exam (usually the last 1-2 exams) and 1 lieutenant who acts as the team leader. They are assigned to DCAS for 6 months while writing the test. They are prohibited from discussing the content of the exam. They fired a lieutenant in the past for this (1991?)

Ok i completed all the academy sessions except for 8 and i didn't think they were that bad and the in-basket was a piece of cake. I'll do 8 tomorrow under test like conditions. How hard could it really be? Anyway I hear the actual test will be pretty straight forward cuz the job's hurtin' for sgts. No confirmation on that, just what I heard.
In the future we might want to privately send user name and password information to individuals rather than post it on a public forum. Good initiative but perhaps bad judgment.
man, I hope I pass this test, I really don't want to go through this again. I think if i pass, i'm taking my patrol guide to the range, and letting some shots off at it.
I got 69 on Academy's session 8 and really sweated it off. I hate when they ask who notifies who. Technical knowledge questions I can deal with, but when it concerns if it is D.O. who notifies or Patrol Sup. who notifies or Cop who requests I am completely lost. Oh well, I am hoping to do well and I wish everyone GOOD LUCK!!!!!
I took session 2, 3 and and some of session 6 and I got about 85 percent of them right... but when I took session 8 a week or so ago i got a 55...big difference in the difficulty of all the sessions compared to 8. Hope the test is more like sessions 1 through 7. Good Luck.

I hate to tell you but it will be hard. Sessions 1 thru 7 were a joke i felt it was written for retards. If they wrote sessions 1 thru 7 like they did session 8 that would make a big diference. I can't say that session 1 - 7 did not help. Yes they did, but they also gave a false sense of security. There is so much material and only 80 to 90 questions to ask (10 more for roll call questions on the inbasket and COMPSTAT). 1 more day of hard work for me, than I am taking off on Friday to relax, may be I will go over a few procedures and thats it. Wish you all well.
