This is more of a question because I was recently given this info and wondered maybe someone else here has the info on it. I was told that if you are a Lt with 5 years or more because of the additional 2.5% bwc stipend that we get it pushes that Lt past starting pay of a new captain. Therefore, if anyone here had 5 years or more in rank of Lt they would go to step 3 of the captain's steps and would put that person 1 year from top pay. I am not sure if this is 100% confirmed or not but wanted to make a topic about it here because if it is true it is a big deal.

But remember,..it applies to Lieutenants with over 5 years in rank.

Yes, you need to have that BWC percentage that kicks in after the 5 years in rank.

I am now told for those newly promoted captains who were lts for 5 years min
Yes, they go to step 3 but now I am told they DO NOT go to top pay a year after. Worst case step 3 for 3 years...better than nothing

That makes sense as well. But again, if you look at this list, it only applies to a few people. For example, next class,..how many of them have been im rank for over 5 years ???

I could be wrong, but I spoke to the CBA. They specifically said that after 1 year, you will go straight to top pay.

Thats great news. But again, its a small window. After September it would be next March. But good for those who fall in this window.

Im not doubting you but at the same time this doesnt really make much sense based off past history. With all the wonky contracts, no rank has stayed at a certain step for multiple years.

Yes, I totally agree, i do not believe that you can stay a a particular step for multiple years. But I could be wrong. Again, when I spoke to the CBA, they specifically said that if you make it before September 22, you will go to step 3, then go to top pay the following year.

Lets hope you are right. Like this some of the new Captains will benefit from this disparity in pay.
