Looking for advice on what other guys would do. Got 11 years on, almost 3 in rank. Got a pretty fucked up LOD injury about a year ago. long story short chasing a perp broke my ankle pretty bad and got metal and screws put in my ankle. in the hospital for almost 2 weeks for surgery and recovery, been doing physical therapy ever since and been restricted. Still got pain and dont have full mobility.. Found out Im on the list in the mid 600s. Obviously tier 3 so still got a while left to retire. Is it worth going back full duty sucking it up and taking the white shirt? Or retire take the 3/4, tax free and enjoy life not tied to this job. I know to some the answer sounds easy but bunch of different factors to think about at the same time.

Take the rank- make more money and take 3/4. 3/4 of more is more

Got to be full Duty to get promoted and then its years down the road and makes it very hard to get the 3/4. The jobs thought is you were able to go full Duty, but now years later you want 3/4 Id probably have to injure the ankle again. Heard its a lot harder to prove when its an old LOD injury down the road

Definitely take the 3/4, without question. Youre probably young enough to find a good private sector job, and with your 3/4 pension youll be set.

Take 3/4 disability retirement as soon as you are able. Dont hesitate or parse numbers or spend another minute more in the employ of this department than you have to. Consider it parole. Enjoy life while you are young.

I will add that try and make it another year until you hit top pay Sgt. But again, take the 3/4 and run.

Wait for the contract. Stay limited as long as you can so you can reach top pay. Then take the 3/4. Every time the pain gets 2 much, go out sick. If you can wait it out another year try. Do not go full duty and forget about the Lt rank..If it gets 2 bad, or they force you to go full duty, go out sick again

I think this guy nailed it. Wait until you hit top pay and they settle the contract. Then take the 3/4s . If you can. If you come back full duty to take the promotion I could see that being a barrier to you getting 3/4s.

Whats to think about? Youre gonna be clearing more money with 3/4 than you would even as a top pay Lt. You can take 3/4 and get another job and be BALLING.

3/4 - enjoy your life and family. Do something else that will bring you joy in life. Anyone tells you different isnt looking out for your best interest.

Run. Dont look back. Neither the job or the city do not care about you or your family. Take the 3/4 and properly care for yourself and your family. Enjoy the freedom and life after the NYPD
