Took about 10 months for the 2017 SGT list to be established and published by DCAS.

How long until 2017 exam takers were able to get their raw scores, couple of months? For us it was less than a month. If that's an indicator in anyway I foresee (hope) it's out by December. 2017 list expires in January anyway.

The only way to see your raw score was to go to the protest for the 2017 exam. Honestly probably better that way so more people could protest. Too many people in the 60s on this test that didn't protest. Idk if this test will get as many throw outs as 2017.

Any insight on what is this curve deal. How does it work and / or apply to the score?
I'm curious.

The following is posted on the FAQ by ed&tony:
Are these exams "curved" or "scaled"?
Well, the general answer to this is no, not since the passing score of 70% was established some years ago. However, the 2017 Sergeant exam saw raw scores increased by several points, which appears to have been done to reach a desired numbe of eligibles. This resulted in a larger-than-normal list. We do not have an answer as to how or why this occurred, or the methodology used. Therefore, we do not know if this will continue.
I am not sure if this is correct but I have heard that the curve doesnt apply to everyone equally. For example if there is a 10 point curve and you got a 60, you might get a 70 as result of the curve. However, if you got an 80 you dont necessarily receive the same 10 points.

Correct. Only people at the bottom benefited. Scores above 90 didnt see any change
Oh this is cool. It is set up in a way that those who got lower than you cant pass you based on the curve, however the awards or TOJ or FIT points are the factors that can make that person who scored less, be ahead of you. I guess this is as fair as they could get if the goal is to promote more people.
What would you guys change or add?

"Fair"
So people who literally failed the exam and could barely get half the questions right are now getting promoted. Very cool, NYPD!

Yeah, gotta agree with Country Roads here. Doesn't seem very fair. You failed, and you couldn't argue for enough throw-outs? Better luck next time. The NYPD is not in the business of participation trophies, and their constant attempts to ignore this is demonstrated by the sheer incompetence you can see in new age officers.

I agree as well. I am fortunate that I got a very good score. I failed the 2017 by a hair, but I also didnt dedicate a third of the time I did on 2022. Nonetheless, if nypd wouldve pushed my score to atleast a 70 I would have been happier than a pig in sh*t. So I guess it depends on which side of the line you stand.
It sucks more for those who passed in the low 70s since a senior cop can potentially get a better placement on the list after receiving the curve points. This is why its important to try to crush these exams. Leave nothing to chance.
It sucked seeing some of my peers who I knew didnt work as hard as me in the streets, get promoted.

Nothing on this job is fair. It is what it is. Just cause you scored a 90 doesnt mean anything but a higher list#. You can be the worst supervisor on this job with a 99% Score, im sure we have all personally witnessed this.

Keep in mind the NYPD used to promote anybody who took the test. There was no cutoff. They just killed the list when the new one came out. Meaning you could've gotten a 50 and been promoted.
From what I understand this was a long time ago, though.
That being said, I am in full agreement just because you score a 95 doesn't mean you'll be a good sergeant. Some of the best pass by the hair in their chin.

In the early 2000s the job promoted what they needed regardless of score. If they needed 1500 Sgts and number 1500 had a score of 60 then so be it.
Iirc PC Kelly wasnt a fan of supervisors being promoted with failing scores so from then on you needed a 70 to be eligible to be promoted.

I don't know how factual your information is. My grandfather said in the 60s/70s/80s passing was like 75 or 80. My cousin took one of the LT exams in the mid 2000s and passing was an 82.

Wrong!!! Passing was still a 70 for said LTs exam, but they only reached the low 80s/high 70s and the list got cut because the 4 years expired.

I believe the same thing. I think its too much work to have a list before they administer the LT exam. So at the very earliest we should expect it to be sometime after that exam.
