Everyday Im in z finest and I see Lts retiring in droves. Keep them coming. By the end of this month, beginning of next month there should be 200 or more vacancies.

8/25/20 add another 4 LT's that put there papers in..... We must be at this point over 200 spots by the end of this month easy.

Chief Harrison had a meeting with us a couple weeks ago and he said then that there are over 200 LT vacancies that need to be filled. He said it's up to the 14th floor to get the ball rolling.

I know. What really sucks is that sergeants have a large number of vacancies as well. If they promote to the rank of lieutenant, the sergeant rank goes into a deeper hole as there are no cops coming in to allow for their vacancies to be filled.

so you're saying they'll sacrifice Lt vacancies to keep the Sgt. rank as full as possible?

No Im not saying that, thats not the correct way to look at it. Think about it in terms of losing personnel and not receiving a replacement.

Hypothetical....if the city council/dcas lowered the authorized headcount across all ranks..would that mean the 200 or so LT vacancies would just be wiped out. Bringing us back to 0 vacancies? Is that a way they could justify not extending the list? Just curious about how this will play out.

The President of the LBA told the union members yesterday as of 9/120 there are 209 vacancies. They are loosing crazy amount of union dues a month. So I believe they are pushing for promotions to start up again. So lets see what the future holds. As of now the City Council is running the show.

Heres what I was told: a request for 70 LTs and 140 SGTs was put in to City Hall for approval, but they are not going to get back until after Labor Day. Thats all I was told. No idea how long after Labor Day, or chances of approval ie: will they approve all thats being asked or half or none at all.

Lmfao. I'm pretty sure City Hall has nothing to do with promotions, City Hall does authorize the Department's overall headcount. The Department is given a budget, based of that budget the Department establishes headcount for each rank and promotes accordingly.

I laughed when I heard this too, but someone i work with confirmed this and its a reliable source. 1pp is suppose to submit how many people they want to promote to different ranks and discretionary promotions To get approval from city council. The job is beyond dead.

Promos have absolutely nothing to do with the city council. No one submits promos to the city council. A budget is cleared for the fiscal year every year and the nypd does what they need to with that budget. Personnel, OMAP and the PC are pretty much the only people in the loop when it comes to promos.

Not necessarily, Sept 25 was promo .. if it was anything like May. It would be walk across stage, salute and to your command on sept 28
