The job is not dead. People just don't look at it properly. The job is like Microsoft Windows. Windows will never go away, but its ever evolving and always getting updated. There are always new versions coming out, sometimes they aren't even an improvement or there may be bugs, but yet the new computers still use them. Eventually the old versions become completely obsolete.
That is what has happened. The job is not dead but the old version is. Right now we are on Windows 10, (albeit, admittedly, an early version still riddled with bugs.) The problem is that people want to play Battlefield V on the highest settings on Windows XP. They are sitting there clicking install and not understanding why they are getting an error message. Its not compatible anymore and theres nothing we can do about it.
I loved Windows XP too, it was a great time on the job, but if I don't update my operating system, Im just gonna sit here frustrated.
Good luck to all on the next exam.

To be honest, quite the opposite. For a long time I had a similar thought process, but then I started to try and not let things bother me that are out of my control. Definitely not easy. I can be as critical of the cons on this job as much as the next person. However, try to look at the pros, they do exist. Everything doesn't suck. That kind of negativity will eat away at you. Try and think positively. If you need someone to talk to, message me privately if you would like. I will listen. Stay safe.

I can't see this test making 2020. The Dept hasn't even started assigning people to write it and that process takes 6 months alone. During this time I'm going to say as long as schools closed that means the idea of exams are closed. Just an opinion.

makes sense...there probably will be an exam when there's either a vaccine or when we start opening schools with social distance regulations

There was talk of another exam. How I know bc one of my friends were asked to help write the next exam for Sgts and then Covid happened. Then the budget got cut drastically. Then they said they wouldnt be able to write the exam bc it will cost money. So what I heard its on the back burner for now.

Does the extension effect a possibility of an exam in 2021 or 2022?
Originally I thought since it expires 1/2022, they must put a test out in 2021
Now that its 1/2023, i am thinking late 2021 to mid 2022... thoughts?

if i had to guess i'd say next tests will happen in 2022. the city can hire another 1000 or so sgts and 500 or so lts off current lists...however, not even that will cover the upcoming attrition rate...circa 2003-2009 the city hired approx. 3,000 cops a year...all those guys are eligible to retire soon...
