I wonder by the time this list reaches 700, how many people will have retired, gotten jammed up or given how much patrol sucks now; just passed up the promotion because they are Sgts. with the money in a detail? Probably no real way to tell but I know the guys in this forum can figure anything out.

I doubt people are going to give up the promotion to LT, but there is definitely going to be a lot of retirements now and in the future which is good for everyone on this list especially anyone over 1000.

idk, I think if I was close to retirement and was a top pay Sgt with the money I might not leave the rank. Especially if im making OT at the LT rate and have my chart days.

Personally I'll take a huge pay cut. I'm at top pay with 40 hours a month. I can understand people not taking the promotion. I'll prob take the promotion when the time comes AND try to get back into a 40 hour a month spot as a LT.

I can't see the benefit of taking the promotion for a SSA or SDS.

That's a huge gamble. If you're making 40 a month and toward the end of your career, I'd have 2nd thoughts about taking the promotion. Think about your pension. If you're tier 2, and contributing 50% and ITHP that's a lot plus the compounding interest. Obviously everyone is different. If you have less than 10 years then I would say yes because you have time on your hands. However, if you're on the 16+ year mark and making 40 a month, I'd have second thoughts. If you have a hook and have the ability to recoup your OT as LT, that's another obvious Yes. I hate the fact that LT lose chart days. 45 mins x 260 tours= 196 hours you're not getting compensated for.
Bottom line, there are pros and cons with everything. But depending where you are in your career, the cons outweigh the pros a little. To each their own, good luck and stay safe.
Fyi if and when I get promoted , l'll have 19 years on the job and about 13/14 in rank.

Yea, narco is not that bright. The spelling and grammar of a 2nd grader proves it. Hes obviously a Virgin because hes not on any promotional list but still comes on here to post nonsense.

It's slightly better on patrol as a LT. If you're in a good unit with a good quality of life just stay where you are. Patrol is for the birds !!!

It used to be getting promoted was the #1 goal on this job.
Now, IMO it seems to be getting into a gig/off patrol has overtaken that position.
Patrol is a cesspool fraught with danger and OVER-accountability. Danger of loss of life or loss of freedom in the worst cases, loss of career/livelihood and loss of vacation days/chart time every single time you go 98. Led by an administration that doesn't support the mission they espouse.
If you're in a nice gig at ANY rank..... STAY there. You're crazy if you don't.

There is a new underclass of supervisor that has emerged within the last five years in the department. These are Captains and Lieutenants who have been jammed up and/or arrested multiple times. There is a new Captain at PSA2 who is making life a living hell for officers who are already suffering. During her career she was arrested multiple times and was also jammed up for losing her firearm. But these major blunders haven't hurt career. One theory one why this new demented wave of supervisor has emerged is the length of time supervisors are assigned to Viper while waiting for their departmental charges to get resolved. All of these damaged bosses do while assigned to Viper is study for the next exam. Another theory that explains the resistible rise of these losers is their apparent connections to shady high level scammers in the Department and/or City Hall. When these mentally ill supervisors arrive, they cast a dark cloud on any command unlucky to feel their presence. These bosses are sadistic bullies. They do not care how many police officers die, they just want the next promotion.

This Captain you speak of is connected to a Chief. This chief takes care of her and sweeps everything under the rug for her. This unfortunately happens with many other executives that are losers !! The nepotism in this department has risen to an unbearable level. As long as nepotism exists within this department, these undeserving executives will exist and flourish.

The nypd promotional process is an embarrassment. You have these complete zeros passing these basic 100 question tests that now supervise cops. On top of nepotism and hooks they become more awful of human beings than they already are. The amount of bosses that probably were in special ED is frightening.

I thought I read something in one of the Captain exam prep books regarding a management technique : It basically said when taking over a Command as the new Commanding Officer watch how things are run, then after a while see what can be done to make improvements. These new "Perp CO's" after getting out of jail or Viper see a Cop or a Sergeant wearing white socks will terrorize this poor guy until he changes to black socks. This is how they think they will make the command better, by abusing the workforce over nonsense.
